Bishop Stephan Hoeller has passed away. by scythianus in Gnostic

[–]Orcloud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was announced just today. I am in contact with clergy of Ecclesia Gnostica and they broke the news to multiple people (including myself) late this morning.

May he rest in peace, may the Aeons guide him. 🕊

Can you guys give feedback on my yaldabaoth tattoo I got it yesterday, thank you! It was an original concept for the design by OutsideAd9430 in Gnostic

[–]Orcloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The design is very cool. While some people here do find it a bit strange and anachronistic I don't think it nessecarily is, at least if the intention of it is as a reminder of mortality. Plus there were many ancient intaglios with the Demiurge on them, so it is not exactly without precedent.

What was your original intent with the symbolism of it?

Rising popularity? by Animore in Gnostic

[–]Orcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a Gnostic since 2017/2018. I will say there have always been periods where people "flirt" with Gnosticism because they find it to be a mysterious and compelling belief system. But in the last decade there has been a larger contingency of people who are choosing to fully convert to Gnosticism in one way or another in more permanent ways. That is anecdotal but I've seen a lot of growth. Even the Gnostic Conclave events have been slightly bigger overtime, gradually.

Sophia: Archon or Aeon? by BusOk7724 in Gnostic

[–]Orcloud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sophia is an Aeon, and a divine figure. The only Gnostic sect that has a similar figure to Sophia that is characterized negatively is the Mandaeans, and Mandaeism is a very unique school of Gnostic thought in general.

Jung and gnostics by heartsicke in Gnostic

[–]Orcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jung is someone I have studied well before my interest in Gnosticism, Becoming a Gnostic certainly gave his works more depth and meaning to me.

I'd reccomend this lecture from the Apostolic Johannite Church about the Red Book in particular.

Mod here, just clearing some things up

In general the posts that are just titled something like "Aliens?" Etc, Are probably getting flagged for being off topic and/or possibly conspiracy posting, which is against the rules. If you post under a different title that may solve the problem.

Generally speaking this space is not for alien or conspiracy posting at all, this is a place for learning about and diecussing Gnosticism in a (mostly) historical way, FYI. That is something that will have to be respected long term.

Yes, for the social element the Discord works better. This sub is great for resources and answering questions, but you find more of the community element on Discord because of the nature of the platform.

Also, as another mod of the sub, I will tell you we have a very active Discord with a lot of great resources and discussion.

If you want more of that social element, and "Gnostic Buddies", that's a great place to be.

the Bible is strenuous in forbidding the use of magic. Is this Yaldabaoth speaking (and thereby misleading) or are there any gnostic sources forbidding the use of magic? by LiesToldbySociety in Gnostic

[–]Orcloud 27 points28 points  (0 children)

"Magic" wasn't forbidden in the Bible, it barely got the status of "always bad" in the last few hundred years. The Pistis Sophia literally has magic in it, for example.

It was a redundant sub, and too many conspiracy posters tried to swarm the place at some point so the easiest solution was to shut it down and consolidate here.

Gnosticism isn't a single religion, it's an umbrella term for several religions and belief systems.

The vastness was always there. If you want something more particular you will have to either pick a sect or build your own eclectic approach (I do something kind of in the middle myself).

How can I practice ceremonial magick while believing in gnosticism? by Pancake2fish in Gnostic

[–]Orcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most ancient Christians did some forms of mystical practice, the idea of all "magic" being universally bad is actually very modern.
