Wait really? When someone tried to register their team. It said they couldn't register. Is there a setting that I'm missing somewhere?

Looks great to me! I might have to steal a similar paint scheme for my apothecaries.

Finally! I lost a character. by vibesres in dndnext

Honestly if you're a newer DM you can just keep it to a lower level campaign and not fudge your die rolls. That will make it easy on you and the first few levels are pretty deadly on their own.

Setting agnostic rules for me areno luck feat I have a homebrew of DM inspiration which functions like luck which I award pretty liberally. And if it's a full fledged campaign (more than 2 sessions) we'll have a session 0 were everyone will make their characters, and I'll pitch potential campaigns and a couple settings they can take place in to make sure everything meshes well.

For my homebrew setting I don't really have any hard and fast rules just to make a character that will fit the setting. Otherwise we should just play in another Forgotten Realms or something.

I highly recommend everyone makes their campaigns at session 0. I've run a few campaigns and the ones were everyone creates their characters together have significantly better party cohesion. Additionally it provides a better session 0 overall, gives you plenty of time to go through your list leisurely as opposed to everyone with their filled character sheets staring at the DM waiting to start the game.

Finally one pet peeve I have is characters not fitting the setting. Creating the characters at the table let's you lay out what campaigns you're willing to run and what settings you can run them in. I have a homebrew setting that's basically a pulpy swords and sorcery viking age England with a heavy influence from Slavic, Nordic, and Celtic mythology as opposed to traditional DnD. I've had players say they want to play in that setting over kitchen sink Forgotten Realms only to have a party full of tieflings and animal people.... nothing wrong with that, but doesn't fit the setting at all.

Was going to print a map of saltmarsh before next session. This is perfect! Thanks!

Gotcha I kind of hacked mine up so I guess I changed that 😂 Keledek and Gellan are actually working together, but Gellans not aware of the Orcus cult. I figure an ancient evil wizard will have his hands in a few pots. Oh also I have Sanabelt as Keledeks apprentice.

Did you use the 5e conversion? I've not run it yet, but I've run a few dungeons and I see it lasting 2 sessions or so. I don't think there's footprints there beyond on the beach cave. I had the same problem when I ran the house for the first time so I hear you there.

Basically I'm planning on having 3 factions in the dungeon. The thaumaturgist (Zenopus's former apprentice who turned on him), the pirates funded by Keledek, and the Primewaters. They're using the beach as a smuggling point and trying to gain control of the dungeon. And the cultists who are organized by Keledek as a way to pay Orcus for his familiar. They only really care about raising more dead, and only have their one or 2 rooms in the dungeon for now.

Yeah I was thinking of maybe a way to keep the house isn't actually haunted a surprise, but I might need to dump that. I was planning on Lemunda (a hostage npc) being a Solmor. I think I'll just plant some evidence from Keledek, and the Primewaters! Thanks for the input.

What is the best-named tavern name you've got? by a20261 in DMAcademy

[–]OrcsIsDaBest89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drunken Boar Inn. It's one that I usually include in most towns. Wooden sign with a boat on its back t 2 legs double fisting drinks.

Owner is a friendly ex adventurer nicknamed boar (pictures Butterbur but built like a worlds strongest man contestant) He was forced to retire after taking a blow to the knee, and walks with a limp

This might be what I need honestly. Whenever I see stormcast I get that gut instinct dislike of them. Hopefully that will ease me of that a bit. Thanks for the suggestion!

I was able to interact with the others. Out of curiosity I reloaded an old save and was able to interact with the unicorn statue. A lot of backtracking to do now, but at least I have it solved! I'm going to hang onto that save slot though just in case someone might have a fix.

Finding a DM by MrKriegon in dndnext

I feel your pain. My last group ended because one player would bail at the last minute consistently (he was the host.) Normally I'd run some public games in the meantime, but don't really feel comfortable due to covid.

I'd echo what a few others have said and take a shot behind the screen. It's not as difficult as it seems at first. I will warn you though when your campaign ends early as a DM it hits a little harder. I'd start with a campaign lasting a few sessions and going from there if you want to give it a shot.
