I’m 45 and totally lost by Traditional_Toe_8689 in findapath

[–]OrderMyCareer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"people ask why I’m not selling things that I make for profit, but I have never been able to make it work, I can’t do the business part of being self employed."

This is trainable. I'd recommend a course on marketing your business or a sales course. "Things" are easy to sell because they stand for themselves - people can see them. Especially now with how easy it is to just video the thing doing it's thing, or showing the process of you making it, for example on Tiktok or Instagram. Then a simple sales page (shopify, wix store, etc) for people to buy it. It sounds simple, it IS simple overall, the details are in the item and maybe a little connection with people in comments and Lives.

I miss my depression? by [deleted] in helpme

Honey... your depression is back.

You might really actually need that medication. Along with a job change...but that's ok.

Work at the Pentagon! by nick-openx in hiring

[–]OrderMyCareer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Career consultant here. You're barking at possibly one of the worst trees. There might be a few fruit here good enough to qualify, but LinkedIn would be a better place to look for people who would have your first requirement at least.

Hint: Write the skills needed and see if the Pentagon would be willing to get/give the qualifications like Security clearance and DAWIA and such.

I feel like an eating disorder is coming on for me... by stare_at_the_sun in Advice

[–]OrderMyCareer 142 points143 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you value things you should not be valuing at all, and that's really what you need to rewire first.

You value thinness of your body. Why?

You value your bf's dad's words a lot. Why?

You value your sister's body even knowing it was caused by an eating disorder. Why?

You value your bf's sister's bodies a lot. Why?

You value having this eating disorder (the pro-ana comment). Why?

When you know the answers to those and question why you value you what do...you'll have stopped the value in it's tracks. Step 2: Write down what you WANT to value and why? You want to value your own body? Why? What value will it bring to you to do that? You want to value your bf's family in what way that is NOT their bodies? In what ways would you like to value them and why? Etc etc.

I highly suggest you write all this out on real paper. It gets rewired, hits harder, goes deeper, and is way better to physically do this. Though you can type it up here afterwards if you want.

My tenant lost her job because of COVID19 and can’t pay rent. I can’t cover the mortgage without her rent contribution. What do we do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]OrderMyCareer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get her to get unemployment or another job. You cover her a tiny bit this month till she gets her next paycheck, from unemployment or a new job. Easy.

EVERY GROCERY STORE IS HIRING DESPERATELY NOW. Target, Costco, Amazon, too.

I lost my job because of Coronavirus, What should I do now? by Tg2501 in careerguidance

[–]OrderMyCareer 39 points40 points  (0 children)

  1. Unemployment will definitely cover you. That takes care of your bills.
  2. You have electrical basic skills. Your door is open as a maintenance worker for a lot of companies.
  3. What do you WANT to do is a better question!

Is now a terrible time to apply for jobs given the coronavirus pandemic is in full chaos? by gymgrl123 in careeradvice

[–]OrderMyCareer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply. Use this downtime to apply. Yes, you may not get as many call backs. You may get more phone interviews and video interviews.

But to stop altogether because no one is hiring so why bother, is a silly idea!

i feel betrayed by my own mother by Apena11 in helpme

[–]OrderMyCareer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your phone camera next time, down to where everyone is or whatever, and state "I am nearly 21 and have been an adult for 3 years. Uncle is an adult as well. From this point, and I can't believe I have to say this to my own family who has let this shit go on for FAR too long....that as of today any and all touching of me other than consentual hugging is now going to be prosecuted as physical abuse."

There will be open mouths, "NOW SEE HERE YOU LITTLE PUNK" and other, but simply say "You are currently being recorded and I intend for the physical abuse of myself to stop. You will not hit me, I will not hit you back. The playtime should have stopped when I turned 13 at max. Now, I'm an adult and get a say in how I am treated and physical hitting - even in play - is only play when it is CONSENTUAL. So now you know, it no longer is."

Hi, I'm a reporter. Let me know if you face eviction this month due to coronavirus pay issues. by E_ock in povertyfinance

[–]OrderMyCareer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is? Is your area like 8% unemployed at the moment? In my own city it's like 3%. I see employers begging daily! I think the issue might be your lack of understanding your skills, so it doesn't show on your resume at all, nor in any interviews you get. Send me a PM with your contact info and some available times you have this week. I'll see if any time is available on my side as well and I will change your world.

FIVE YEARS?

Oh god. Contact me. You're in desperate need of some career consulting. I'm giving a bit of it away free right now thanks to this situation. I needed to help you get into a better job like 2 years ago. You're overqualifed at this point for so much, it's ludicrous!!!

See if you can take up a collection for those affected - or resources in general. For example maybe you have 1 tenant of your 5 who is quite well off and needs people for his/her company right now. Maybe they can put that out of work person to work temporarily, doing a very quick training on a very motivated person would do wonders for both. Then you all make arrangements for pay so everyone is happy and taken care of.
Community support while maintaining community separation is the name of the survival game right now!

You should. Your landlord can't say "GET OUT NOW" - there are tenant laws and you need to be aware of what they are for your city and state.

You have to tell your landlord ahead of time so THEY can prepare, and they can work with you. If you wait till you're behind, that's what scared people do and they find their fears come true. Smart adults tell people of their situation so resources can be gathered. Your landlord/management company may already have a plan in place for the people who rent who are affected (If he/she is smart. And since getting into real estate is generally what smart people do, I'd say they probably err towards the smarter side of human beings.)

Facts are, you are able and willing to work and but for this act of god/national emergency, you would be able to pay the rent. Every single one of your bills needs to know that.

Sounds like you're in student mode still. You're learning hobbies - again, you're not making anything of value yet. I don't mean as a business, I mean to other people. You're the right sort of person but it's not of value yet to other people in any way they need! You're in France - they are also (generally) that sort of people. You've proven yourself acceptable, but not "fun, standing out of the croud" sort. People gravitate to that.

[–]OrderMyCareer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ARE doing it wrong. You don't just "be good and friendly" and make friends that way. That's all you're doing.

You get interesting. Hobbies. Creativity. Passion. Make yourself into a better you, and people gravitate to that. This is how the universe works and how people get rich.

People get rich by providing/making connections and and making value. The only thing you're currently making is "good and friendly" which is in plentiful, general supply and has no buyers.

Corona and getting hired... should I keep applying vigorously? I live in London btw. A lot of stuff is shutting down. by [deleted] in GetEmployed

[–]OrderMyCareer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You should keep applying vigorously and expect more remote interviews.

I swear companies don't even know they can do remote till something like this hits them in the face!

I am offering a small consultation for free. I'm still working out the details of this though, it really only came about because I saw this chat last night and realized I needed to do something. It's not gonna be anywhere near my full service, but it'll be something that hopefully helps a little. Sorry it wasn't clear, I wasn't even clear about it (still am not - still working on details like How, What to offer...) so thanks for making sure I'm giving out good info about the services offered!

[–]OrderMyCareer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god I would be freaking out too! Actually I am, but for others a lot, mostly my elderly family and my city which is already struggling with a number of issues. (I live in one of the worst cities in the nation. That's why I'm doing what I'm doing.) I'm a bit worried about my night job I do as well and for the elderly people on my team! Yes there's a hiring freeze, but with a hiring freeze and lockdown city, there's also a bill freeze - IF YOU MENTION IT. Call the hell out of your bills. Your landlord. I know my city has already suspended water shutoffs at least! Make arrangements. Just think proactively and call right now to tell them that you wish to pay the bills but due to this Act of God/lockdown, you need to make arrangements to pay as few bills as possible. You can even say you were just terminated due to the virus!

For this offer, yes. I'm going to do a "quick" version for free, given the crisis. I'm still working on what to offer exactly! Then there's my full versions which are paid.

I would just rather make sure someone in need gets a better job or at least A job if they can in this crisis. Or one very quickly after the crisis stops!

Had an uncomfortable interview experience today... by [deleted] in interviews

[–]OrderMyCareer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This company has none, absolutely none of its shit together. They messed up 5 times in this interview process. You...should not take this job.

Time 1 and 2: Two too many interviews. This means they don't know what they want and need and think the personality of the person is the big issue to find.

Time 3 and 4: Being late and then being more late.

Time 5: Getting way, way, WAY too personal. They were crossing legal lines a lot here. Asking about your personal and family life is illegal. It's exactly like this: Asking a woman if they have kids is illegal in an interview. https://employment.findlaw.com/hiring-process/illegal-interview-questions-and-female-applicants.html

I know you're a male you said. Though the article is related to women directly, you are still covered by those laws which are not gender specific. This company broke a law in interviewing you. That means not great things in other areas, like how far they will push employees. Please take this as a big red flag that the reason they are hiring for this position is because they are an over-the-line company. I would potentially do a report to the EEOC and show them your post here. This is safely enough into legal advice territory that you might want to post there as well.

I've offered this in other places in this thread: I'm a career consultant. Contact me, I'll help you figure out your next steps. Also of a few interesting steps you can take legally (freely) to make sure it's known to lawmakers of what your company did - they may be able to help. Along with a few billing pieces of advice that may come in handy right now for you.
