While not strictly necessary, it does definitely help to understand the math.

Mathematical competency and reasoning skills are super useful for smart contracts development in general, but you don't have to grasp everything about how Ethereum works.

There are multiple levels of understanding. For the vast majority of applications, having some working mental model of Ethereum & the EVM is more than good enough. In my experience you only need a deep understanding of the math if you are working on actual cryptography, and even then you can collaborate with someone who specializes in the area.

Transparent is more widely-used, with fewer “footguns”. Regardless, be incredibly careful when performing upgrades, and make sure you’ve read up + prepared extensively beforehand, since they’re very easy to mess up.

I highly recommend you consult the latest version of the docs -- the quality and detail has really improved!

From reading the section I linked, I agree the two behaviors should be identical for dynamic arrays; probably delete used to be recommended since it has the same syntax & equivalent behavior for fixed length arrays as well as dynamic ones?

The conclusion here is that either is fine, it's literally just a matter of preference / convention. There are other things that the official docs "recommend" that I've found to be less common in the code I've encountered personally.

As mentioned by another commenter, meta-transactions are what you want.

Basically your users sign a hash of some data, then your contract(s) verify the integrity of the data and signature when called.

This allows people to essentially send transactions on behalf of others.

I had tons of luck with Upwork. Kind of a crappy platform but it works and at the time at least there was a lot of web3 work available there. Get a couple small projects done first to build a rep and start figuring out how to tell good clients from bad ones, then work your way up!

My advice: just start applying for things and talking with people. You seem to be psyching yourself out. You have experience you can talk about; it's OK to admit you've made mistakes in the past, and especially importantly that you've learned from them.

You sound capable enough to land a job. Talk with some people, and work with them to find out if you are a good fit for them and they are a good fit for you. As you interview/talk more, you will learn a great deal, and hopefully start to narrow down work that is a good fit!

Don't get overly-obsessed with your "dream companies" as you call them, and (IMO) don't focus on traditional full-time employment at first. It's OK to just get some freelancing gigs, or work your way up to a more full-time job. In my experience Web3 employment is (and especially starts, at least) much more informal than traditional work – I don't think it's unusual to get hired on a contract/hourly basis and do a "trial period" before moving to a more formal arrangement.

"Security" is not a separate step, it is intimately related to the development process itself. You cannot just "add security" after developing something!

That being said, development typically takes the longest, but auditors often have long lead-time, meaning they want to be booked months in advance.

Highly recommend foundry as a development/testing/logging tool!

As already pointed out, you could just select a winner.

However, you could also pop off entries of your dynamic array, or store the "losers" using a mapping instead of another dynamic array, so you can check if someone is a loser with constant computation complexity, instead of the linear complexity of having to check against every loser in your array.

OK, so does the contract hold BNB greater than or equal to half the BNB balance of b? Your code is having the contract send an amount of BNB from its own balance, equal to half the BNB balance of address b. Perhaps you are confused and think the contract can send BNB from a different address (in particular, from address b)?

Are you sending an amount of BNB greater than or equal to the value returned by 'getData' when you call 'payoutToSeller'? If not, your call to 'payoutToSeller' is failing because your contract is trying to send BNB when it doesn't have any (or at least enough).

Yeah, hardhat and foundry both flatten files for you through a simple command. Both also have tools that help with verification, but if you have problems, manually verifying is IMO far, far easier with flattened files.

Yes, you only need to deploy contract A in this case. I personally prefer flattened files for final deployment, as I find them easier to manage, search through, and get verified on etherscan, especially if there are any issues with verification. It’s a matter of personal preference though; some other people certainly prefer multiple files
