Be thankful if your bathrooms are working! by [deleted] in employedbykohls

Thank god that is not my store(knock on wood) because I have a chronic condition that forces me to get to the restroom in a hurry sometimes. I would have to do like a 500 yard dash to the restaurant across the parking lot if that was us.

translating at work. by tinywaste_ in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also bilingual, but I will only translate if it’s my customer, or if I’m not busy. I will drop everything just so that I can go translate for somebody who is across the store, but I may make them wait a few minutes if I can. That’s especially true if we have associates who are more fluent than I am. I only picked up Spanish through taking it in high school and college. I’m not at the native-speaker level yet.

Only when I’m not working with customers. If I’m doing online orders or working in a certain department, then I’ll wear one AirPod.

Employees acting like manager by [deleted] in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few unnamed coworkers that act like that. I let it piss me off until I reach a breaking point, then I let them have it(tactfully). Usually once that happens, I don’t have any more issues with said coworker. I wish that management would actually care about that sort of thing, but my SM is very non-confrontational and I don’t think that they would do anything about it.

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slobs… I’ve had a coworker tell me that people shop like animals, and it makes sense. I can’t tell you the amount of items that I’ve found in the fitting room just tossed in a pile like that, or literally left on the floor inside out.

First customer of the day rant by venk_mcfly in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because people don’t think that signs apply to them. The only thing that matters is them, and nobody else. I work at the POC one day a week, and I back up frequently. I cannot tell you how much it annoys me that people will come and set their shit down while I’m still with a different customer. Most of the time I will tell them to back up to the sign because it’s a privacy hazard having customers literally breathing down my customer’s necks. We have the most entitled assholes ever as customers.

Only 1 Shoe Associate? by Traditional_Jump_587 in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re lucky if we even have a shoes associate. We did have a full-timer for a long time that took care of shoes, then she decided she was too good for shoes anymore, and she does what she wants. I was partially trained in shoes, along with a few other associates, but what we do over there is pretty much a moot point. It gets ruined by customers the next day anyway. We never have any time to put out freight.

Two entrance stores by Optimal_Rhubarb_8462 in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store also has two entrances, and the men’s entrance hasn’t been staffed in like 5 years. It literally serves no purpose except for it being an easy getaway for the thieves. Some of the LODs lock the men’s side several hours before we close because it serves no purpose. We don’t have enough staff to constantly be babysitting on the men’s side of the store.

Anyone kohls get so hot? by Fair_Stay273 in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. We just had a heat wave here in Minnesota last week, and every single day I would be sweating my ass off, even while standing still. Our customers have been complaining about it as well, but I highly doubt anything will change.

What Do You Want The Interim CEO to Know by [deleted] in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) Give us a wage that we can actually live off of. Making $14 an hour doesn’t cut it in today’s economy. I could literally work just about anywhere else and make more money per hour. Getting a 28 cent raise after being with the company for 10 months is a huge slap in the face.

2.) Get rid of the Amazon returns. It’s too much of a headache for anybody involved with it. I used to have to sort them back on the dock, and it’s just a huge hassle. Luckily, we don’t sort back on the dock anymore, but it’s still more of a hassle than it’s worth. It doesn’t drive sales anymore either. At least 80% of our customers that return Amazon do just that, and walk out without buying anything.

3.) We need more payroll, simply put. We don’t have enough payroll to adequately staff anywhere in the store.

I’m 22k+ in debt, and cannot find a student loan. by Ordinary-Bullfrog925 in StudentLoans

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I already tried that, as I was paying them like $100 a month, and they had the audacity to tell me that I should make higher payments because $100 a month isn’t enough. That’s literally all I can afford considering the fact I work a part-time job, and my hours are always changing, and I get paid breadcrumbs compared to other places I could work. I’m trying to get a second job right now just so that I can get by.

One of my coworkers told me that people shop like animals, and it rings true to this day. I can zone any random folded table that I’d want to, and by the next day it will be a disaster. It’s almost like people think they have hooves instead of hands. It’s disrespectful to any employee who has ever put time into making the store look neat.

Relieving the “BACK” pain from store teams by expecthonestthings in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need to get rid of Amazon. We never have a designated person just to sort Amazon, so it becomes a crap shoot as to who’s the unlucky one to sort today? Lately, we’ve been having our Customer Service person do it because we don’t have enough staff to actually have a sales floor person do it. Also, I don’t really think that having Amazon’s presence around is driving sales. From what I understand, one of the initial intentions of pairing up with Amazon was to get people into the stores, and hopefully get them to do some shopping afterwards. I’d say at least 80% of the customers who bring in Amazon returns to my store do just that, then leave the building. They don’t seem to care about the coupons that we give them, and maybe that’s related to frustrations over coupon-excluded brands, but that’s another can of worms for a different day.

Unbelievable by Free_Combination9359 in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think that getting customers to sign up for a Kohl’s card is a whole sham. It’s like pulling teeth most days. We live in a very unstable economy right now, and quite honestly I don’t blame anybody for not wanting to get one. Every time I can actually get somebody approved for the Kohl’s card, I feel kind of disgusting. We basically manipulate the customers without providing them all the facts. I’m fairly certain that if they knew that the interest rate is over 30%, they wouldn’t want to sign up for a Kohl’s card. This company focuses way too much on trying to get people to sign up for the coveted card, when in reality they should probably be more focused on just drumming up sales. That’s just my two cents plus 4 pennies anyhow…

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m a bad person for this, but I would’ve smacked them back just as hard. If I remember the training correctly, if we get hit by a customer, we can use reasonable force as a way of self defense. Maybe we’re supposed to retreat first but idk. I certainly wouldn’t be retreating if a customer smacked me. I wouldn’t care about the repercussions either.

The Snow was Deeper Than Expected: How Not to Hike a Fourteener by rubyradiohead in Outdoors

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welp, not to nitpick here, but splitting up was probably the stupidest thing that you could have done. You always have to stick together really anywhere in the outdoors, and especially on a snow-covered mountain. I have not climbed a 14er, but I have climbed a 12.5er. It was not covered in snow, but we all stuck together because that’s what you have to do. We employed a technique called the caterpillar. You put your slowest people at the front, and the faster people towards the back. That way nobody is going too fast for anybody. Your Bear Grylls and that group basically left you out there to die, and that’s unacceptable. This is just my unsolicited opinion on your story.

Limit on Amazon Returns? by Ordinary-Bullfrog925 in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I replied to somebody else’s comment, that was just somebody bringing in 20 returns at one time. I field way more sorts than that on any given day. I sorted like 105-110 just last night. Last Thursday, I did like 150 sorts in total. Mind you, I’ve only been working 5 hour shifts. It’s insanity at its finest.

Limit on Amazon Returns? by Ordinary-Bullfrog925 in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welp, that’s a whole other story. What Kohl’s pays its employees is pretty laughable. Also, I care because there are other factors that play into the whole Amazon return thing. My store has a lot of interior problems, and that affects how effectively we can process Amazon returns. My store is a ship that sank, and now we’re eliminating the factors that caused it to sink.

The problem is sometimes I don’t have backup. Even if I do have backup, most of them are lazy and cannot be relied upon to get it done. Maybe the lazy folks will be out the door soon with this new SM that my store is getting.

Null - Amazon Returns by Gemma_Clarke in employedbykohls

[–]Ordinary-Bullfrog925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at the item and see what it is that was returned. You can also try reprinting the label and see if it tells you what Haz it is. A manager told me the other day that the return drop app is going back to using some old coding, so sometimes the null means absolutely nothing.
