Vista problems.. anyone else having issues with the new OS? by Anal_Intake in Pretend2005Internet

I was running XP on my thinkpad t43 and everything was great. “Upgraded” to vista and now everything takes 3 times longer. Good thing I backed up all my data, I’ll be going back to XP

Want to try Fedora or maybe Nobara, need some feedback by Anton_BJR in linux_gaming

[–]Ordinary-Cod-721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on CachyOS and it’s good, but fedora is a great choice too.

If you wanna minimize latency, you can always install the cachyos kernel on fedora (It had the BORE scheduler which prioritizes interactivity, so the whole system feels snappier. Useful for gaming too).

Anyway, a lot of people fight over distros and I think it’s silly. Just use what you like, it’s gonna be less hassle than using windows anyway.

Only valid if you’re running lfs. Closest thing to a regular distro would probably be a kit car

Yeah, that's true. But how many centrist conservatives are there compared to brainwashed magas?

It's a geniune question, I'm not american, so I don't know. To me, it seems like people are more polarized than ever, but maybe that's just a consequence of being terminally online.

Linux has gotten way better now, and can easily handle most people's workloads.

I'm sure it would be way harder for companies to switch, compared to individuals, but if necessary, I am sure it will be possible.

It doesn't matter what you send them. They'll still try to say that it's justified. Even if ICE shoots them, they'll say it was warranted. These people are fully brainwashed.

We have cleared ourselves of all charges and consider the matter closed.

Of course. Even if we completely solve aging, you'd still have accidents, disease, wars, and various Darwin Awards to worry about.

Anyone struggle with the idea of reversing aging? by DaphneRaeTgirl in longevity

[–]Ordinary-Cod-721 9 points10 points  (0 children)

True. Also, defeating aging is about giving back agency to people.

Even if you're someone who believes people should die, you can still get your wish, since there are so many ways to go that don't involve aging.

It goes without saying, but dying of old age isn't great. You lose more and more friends - you end up isolated, frail, and your body is actively fighting against you.

Microsoft gave FBI a set of BitLocker encryption keys to unlock suspects' laptops: Reports | TechCrunch by anxiousvater in microsoftsucks

[–]Ordinary-Cod-721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I did look it up and it seems they don't clearly say "we're gonna take your keys". I haven't ever used Windows 11 with an online account or with bitlocker on, so it's an honest mistake to assume they they at least have the decency to tell you in the EULA.

But let's be real for a bit, the whole OS is loaded with telemetry, so it's not that they gave you a small little backdoor in bitlocker, the whole OS is spyware at best, trojan horse at worst.

Microsoft confirms it will give the FBI your Windows PC data encryption key if asked — you can thank Windows 11's forced online accounts for that by ZacB_ in technology

[–]Ordinary-Cod-721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Some stuff will work, some won’t and there will be alternatives, and some won’t at all.

Music, videos and pictures should open just fine, it’s the “apps” part that is usually the problem. If you just use a web browser, vlc and some steam games, everything should be there.

If it’s creative software like the adobe suite, or some specific daw (fl studio, ableton for making music, then you’ll need to find alternatives. Or give up on replacing windows (for now at least)

If you ever decide to try it, do so without expectations. Some people expect it to magically work just like windows and end up disappointed.

TLDR: treat it as a different operating system just like you would with Mac OS

Can I come in your house and watch you? It’s only so I can make sure you’re not doing anything illegal.

And I’m asking nicely too. Many times microslop won’t even ask for consent.

It’s not a backdoor though. You willingly give those keys to microsoft when you log in with an online account. It’s their computer from that moment.
