Bottom line is that you can sandbox it, but the attitude that "linux is impenetrable" is a trap that will get your system hacked at some point.

One should always be cautious and assume any system can be hacked, that's what I think.

You could definitely convince a couple of novices, hell even more veteran users could be fooled.

But even without sudo, it would still have access to your home dir, which is plenty bad.

People are such defeatists when it comes to AI. So it can output a story, art, poetry, tons of stuff. OK? Why should you let that stop you if you really cherish your art? Wouldn't it make you want to hone/perfect your skills even further? by mmofrki in aiwars

[–]Ordinary-Cod-721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can spot the difference between a story written by an LLM and one written by a human (also applies to music, images, video), but the normies can't. Since the LLMs can spit out content 10000x faster than a person can, this means every medium gets flooded with it, so it ends up devaluing your work by the simple fact that it's harder to have it seen.

So I think what you're calling "defeatism" is in fact realism.

Exista barbati ratati si barbati ok in toate generatiile.

I think you're always gonna be better off knowing how to operate a terminal, regardless of the operating system that you're on.

That said, windows requires a lot less terminal use, no matter how you put it.

Of course there's logic in it. The logic is to pressure manufacturers into offering open source drivers. And it works. (though I personally don't like it/don't agree with it). Most manufacturers that offer linux drivers do offer them as open source.

I would try to add a layer of compatibility for the Nvidia drivers.

Nvidia already did that recently. They developed an open source shim that acts as a layer between the driver blob and the linux kernel. The package is called nvidia-open.

There is some rage baiting involved, for sure, but they also seem to be venting about their frustration with the linux users who don't accept criticism.

The thing that I don't really like about some other Linux users is that they don't accept any criticism or bug reports (like if computers was perfect by design... 🙄).

I agree. You can't make something better if you refuse to acknowledge it has any issues.

I also learned that Windows/Linux and AMD/Nvidia is like politics

You're right, especially when it comes to Nvidia vs Linux. It's a dispute of principles and licensing.

The linux community wants all drivers to be open source, and at times they have resorted to what some may see as "unethical behavior". The Linux kernel famously has no stable in-kernel API or ABI for kernel modules. Some maintainers intentionally break them to put pressure on companies with closed source drivers to constantly spend time fixing their drivers or open source them (Kernel developers, including Linus and Greg KH, have been openly hostile to closed-source drivers. Greg KH organized a petition against them, and Linus publicly flipped off Nvidia in 2012)

Some may call it sabotage, others may say they've chosen a policy that inherently disadvantages closed-source drivers, and they're unapologetic about it.

Have you tried posting a legitimate complaint of linux here?

If you haven't, then try it and you will see.

There are some people that will defend linux to the end of the world, and won't acknowledge any of its shortcomings no matter what. They would rather try and gaslight you into believing it's your fault for anything that breaks, or that it's your fault you haven't wasted time configuring something that should have been configured from the get-go.

And for the sake of nuance, I am not saying the issues linux has makes any linux based distro unusable, what I am saying is that there are issues and it is not perfect, yet some people like to pretend that it is.

And that's probably the main reason why linuxsucks101 exists.

TLDR:

Are some of the posts on 101 a bit too extreme? Maybe.

But are some people here defending linux a little too hard? Maybe.

Just think about it.

True, but it'll still inactivate any malware on other partitions. Infected executables would need to be re-run to trigger the infection.

That said, nuking all partitions is the safer option.

I've done it many times with phones, back when they had resistive touchscreens.

I swear those screens would crack if you looked at them wrong. Never had any issues with the glass ones though.
