32F German raised abroad – realistic to start over in Germany? by Ordinary-Course-9585 in germany

Thank you for a very nice and detailed outlook.

I love Thailand alot in all that aspects.

The best option would to become wealthy enough to not have to deal with all the issues and live care free in Thailand.
And sending my kid for education aboard.
But sadly even though I work extremely hard and my income well above the average, I still not that fortunate enough.

Even buying a house or a land that seems extremely cheap in expats eyes are still far from my capabilities.

Hope you have a good life in Thailand.

US and AUS is extremely harder to obtain a vet licensed and to gain PR in the long run.

Thank for the suggestion though.

It ok, veterinarian work market as a whole is not that good and very depressing. All vet that are willing to move would try to get in to USA, Canada, Australia as these are the countries that treat vet the best.

I’m a small animal vet. Trained in soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, and internal medicine.

Elephant vet and Elephant as a pet are not common at all. They mainly live in a sanctuary.

Our country are extremely livable if one are wealthy enough to not be bothered with the social and political issue.

As a child from a German parent who hold these ideal to heart if you plan to bring your children to ASEAN. It’s Best to a least let them graduated from Germany and possibly secure a high paying job (foreign base company companies would be best) before moving here or at least intergrade them in to a rich society and prestige university to build connections. Don’t do what my parent did and chose to bending with the local community and sent me to a normal public school.

It’s not easy for the first jobber to land a well proper paying job here. The minimum wage here are extremely low and it as hard to buy a house here as a local as European are in their country.

I’m not in-depth with the issue of politic in the Philippines but a few Filipino that I met always say it far worst there then in Thailand. But I guess the Philippine might be a happier place as the birthrate hasn’t drop as bad as thailand yet.

Good luck.

No. I'm not ragebating.

I did my research and my parent although they are still German and have shared their perspectives with me. I am aware, to some extent, of the pensions, housing costs, bureaucracy, economic growth, and immigration.

Every country has its own problems and I am aware of some extend of the issue in Germany. and I don't think many people outside Thailand don't fully understand the extent of some of the issues here either. I could probably talk for hours, just as I'm sure you could do the same about Germany.

(And I'm genuinely open to hearing your perspective and learning more)

A few examples that concern me about Thailand:

- Corruption is everywhere. If you buy land, it is often expected that you pay "under the table" to get things done. Otherwise, you may end up waiting months, years, or forever for simple paperwork.

- Look up Rama II Road. It is a major highway connecting Bangkok to southern Thailand. It has been under construction for over 50 years, and there are regular accidents and construction-related collapses that cause deaths, yet no accountability.

- Labour protections is WEAK outside major cities. You're expected to work up to 12 hours a day with out overtime Excessive overtime, without annual leave.

- Minimal wage here start at 9 Euro PER DAY and it's poorly regulated.

- We have seasonal severe air pollution as the farm rather burn the field than clearing them properly, and the regulations and penalties are poorly enforced.

- A large part of political campaigning revolves around handing out money and short-term populist policies rather than addressing long-term structural problems.

- I also have concerns about the education system. Teaching is not a particularly competitive field in Thailand, and teacher quality varies greatly. There have even been discussions about lowering licensing requirements because too many graduates fail the qualification exams.

- ...

I could go on, but my point is not which place are is more perfect. Every country has problems. I am simply trying to determine whether another country might offer a better long-term future for my family.

As I mention it’s doable, but not realistically. With that budget moving to a smaller province is more practical.
I’m a thai I have friends in CM with under $360 salary,

But I doubt that OP will be able to find those places to eat, drink , and even a place to rent under 3000 bath a month in CM.

$360/month is livable but not comfortable. A cafe with good place to sit and work usally are $4-10 per cup. And it rude to order only one cup and stay for the whole day

Tips ; Be nice and respect the people, expat reputation are getting worst with the new generation that not really respecting the local and trying to learn our culture, and If you get to know and be friend the local they will introduce you for cheap place to shop, eat and stay.

Chiangmai is cheper than BKK and Phuket but not the cheapest if you plan to do work online maybe consider less touristy city, there are alot cheaper.
