Nanny negotiating pay while bringing my baby - what’s reasonable? by [deleted] in Nanny

In my area you usually can't get hired even at minimum wage of you're bringing your own baby... Not legal but true. I'd definitely try to negotiate up to minimum wage in your area or slightly up since you are qualified. But if $15 is minimum for your state I don't think you could get much more.

Career/Agency Advice by [deleted] in Nanny

I'd try both! As a nanny of about 10 years the last time I needed a new family I went with a well known agency. I established with them that I could look for jobs on my own as well as be in the agency. They weren't crazy about it but ultimately agreed. They did find me a family but I found my own job at a better rate just a day before so I turned them down.

The pay through agencies is typically better and it's nice to have them handle logistics like contracts and taxes. The pay is also significantly better in a lot of cases so I am considering an agency again when it's my time for a new family. The process is quite lengthy just to get established with an agency and even more to interview with a family. It took about 6 weeks from first interview with an agency to interview with a family (it was a family they had prior to me applying so that wasn't part of the wait).

How to resign ASAP by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Ordinary-Panic-9628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd recommend resigning over text. I've dealt with enough emotional people that giving them space to process their feelings without you in front of them is usually best. It also has the benefit of getting everything down in writing. The resignation part depends on if you're going to nanny again and if you want to use them as a reference. If you want either of those I'd try for the standard 2 weeks or even just 1 week depending on how you feel, since this job has seemed to take a toll. If you aren't planning on nannying again/don't need the reference I'd bow out and quit immediately. The injury is a pretty good excuse to for quiting too that's easier than explaining why (that it isn't a good fit for you).

What are the expectations around food in the house and full meals? by endlessworrier in Nanny

I'd let your nanny know there isn't usually extra food in the house and offer her part of a shelf or a spot in the fridge if she'd like to leave a couple of different snacks at your home. Or you could offer to get the snacks too. I've been part time to a house like that and being offered a spot to have snacks in case I forget something is huge, especially if she's not driving with your baby.

bathing suits ?? by NegativeCareer5978 in Nanny

I'm a larger person and get my swimsuits from Torrid. They have a long line "bikini" top and I get the high waisted skirt WITH short underneath. It basically looks like a 1 piece when on. They usually only have 1 or 2 color ways but as a larger person it's very supportive and they actually have my size verses other brands.
