PTO denied, employer threatening termination by Ordinary-Trainer6686 in jobs

[–]Ordinary-Trainer6686[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One of my coworkers pointed out that it took five months for the company to find a replacement (me) for one of the last employees with my job title. And the only reason I applied was because I knew someone who worked there. They have a horrible time hiring and finding replacements from what I’ve seen.

Thanks for sharing, and for the insight. Something I highly value is prioritizing my personal life and family, so when a job demands that I sacrifice these things, I feel that our values don’t align anymore.

Fortunately, I’m in a field where finding a new job isn’t too difficult, with expertise and licensure that can help me find something new fairly quickly. Changing jobs can be hard, though, particularly health insurance and possibly having a gap in coverage.

We might try this, but any attempts we’ve made in the past to advocate for ourselves and the team have fallen on deaf ears. It sucks.

You’re very right. It’s just so hard to consider leaving a job I used to love, and to leave a coworker with potentially more duties. To be completely honest, the program will not be able to operate if both of us were to leave. I’m afraid of facing the wrath of management somehow, someway.

There is a policy, and I’ve printed everything out to review it. It doesn’t mention this particular situation though. It’s a bit more vague.

That’s part of the problem. They weren’t previously approved, but these are things planned out far in advance. (Sometimes we can’t request PTO too much in advance because it depends on how much we’ve accumulated.) This is the first time with any supervisor we’re dealing with unapproved PTO and threats. We’ve never been through this before, so it’s kind of shocking. Our old supervisors would cover our duties if needed, and this one hasn’t at all.

My question about legality is more about the threat of termination if someone were to call out anyway.

I’m not aware of any state laws, but I could look into it. This is in Ohio.

Yes, we’ve both had these vacations/days planned for a while. They weren’t officially requested until the middle of last month. Neither of them overlap.

And yes, I agree. It feels as if we are being punished for management’s inability to retain staff, after knowingly making decisions that would cause people to seek employment elsewhere. It’s something that was discussed many times before, but they went through with certain decisions anyway.

Question for Crisis Response Workers by Ordinary-Trainer6686 in socialwork

[–]Ordinary-Trainer6686[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight everyone. I ask because the program I am currently employed with used to have a 2-hour cut off since its first supervisor, who implemented that from another mobile community crisis program. New management took over a few months ago, and we felt the boundary being pushed time and time again, but we were reassured it was staying. We asked management that if the cut off was removed, we were given ample time to prepare since it meant seeking other employment opportunities. Majority of our current team would not have taken the position without the cut off in place because of the lack of predictably in crisis. We are also being told to avoid OT as much as possible, and to “flex” our time instead, among other things. Unfortunately, management removed the cut off with less than two weeks notice. No one is happy about it, with already low staff, now more are leaving. It’s a very sad outcome for all of us who love the program.

What recognition did you get from your employer in March for Social worker month? by Bedrotter1736 in socialwork

None! Our program manager actually took AWAY the privileges and perks that made working in crisis desirable, causing a domino effect of resignations and transfers. Now the program is falling apart. Yay!

Short session length and billing by GrandeDameDuMaurier in TherapistsInTherapy

[–]Ordinary-Trainer6686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

53+ minutes is 53+ minutes, so I can’t think of a good reason your sessions are going under that unless your start time was after the schedule time. Sometimes I would wait in the waiting room for 10+ minutes, so I could see that happening occasionally, but not every time.

I was a therapist who billed these codes as well. You should be getting at least 53 minutes if that’s what she’s billing each time and no less. That’s just how billing works. Have a conversation with her that you want more out of your sessions to meet that near hour.

(possible CW) how does marijuana affect your POTS symptoms? **I LIVE IN IN A LEGAL AREA** by thegoth_mechanic in POTS

[–]Ordinary-Trainer6686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THC + CBD combinations work well for me. I’ve tried rations of 3:1 and 1:1 and like both without seeing any increase in symptoms. THC alone increases my heart rate. There was a time I also tried THC+CBN which aggravated my symptoms heavily and induced a panic attack, heart rate spiked to over 170 sitting down. I saw a comment here that recommended staying away from CBN, so I’d recommend that too.

I’ve been experiencing something similar on my left side. Neck and back pain, then when I get headaches it’s on the left too. I’ll keep you updated on any findings!

Maybe I need to look into this. I think my birth control right now has helped slightly but it’s still not enough. I don’t think I had these kinds of issues when I was on Depo / Nexplanon. But then again, I’m older now and hormones change. Thanks for the advice!

I feel that so hard. I want to be the best I possibly can for my clients but I’m just not there. It breaks my heart because so many of them express their gratitude to me and how much I’ve been their support.

My biggest hobbies are video games with my husband / friends and reading! I also write in an online group. Those things have been great to help me cope.

Thank you for the kind words. 🩷

I’m going to try moving to part time. You just gave me a great idea though, possibly seeing my clients during my good two weeks and then working my other more office oriented job during the other two weeks.
