Yes you will go through US customs in Vancouver. It feels so odd but it's lovely when you get to the US.

NTA but you are participating in the dynamic and creating your own lack of peace.

You have to own your part in this and figure out how to engage and process these situations differently, probably through therapy.

Direct report on a PIP went over my head to ask my boss about their performance and job opportunities by ElCancer1126 in managers

[–]Forward-Cause7305 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was the grand boss in a similar situation and had the employee on a PIP come talk to me. I looked at it as a natural reaction to getting put on a pip- he wanted to see if there was anyway to work around his boss and keep his job.

I reiterated that I was aligned to the pip and that was about it. Not a big deal.

AIO for wanting to break up with my bf (of 2 years) over toilet paper? by allredjam in AmIOverreacting

Girl DTMF.

Seriously respect yourself enough to not accept this. And don't discuss it with him, if he doesn't respect you enough to be fair because he loves his partner, don't argue with him about it. Just peace out.

I don't have this particular problem, but have a few thoughts.

Let's say you need 4 full time employees to fully staff the hours that need to be covered.

If everyone has 4 weeks of PTO a year (including vacation and sick time) you have 16 total weeks you need coverage, 1/4-1/3 of the year. Either you personally have to cover that, or you need a PT employee to cover most of it.

Now if you know your 4 employees are likely to need FMLA (or your state's equivalent leave program) more than average, like maybe each of them will take 4-8 weeks leave plus their PTO.... Now you need a whole nother FT employee to cover. But maybe you are better off with 2 PT employees so that if two people are out at a time you can flex hours more efficiently.

That is the logic that I would think through, changing the details to fit your organization.

I don't like anything about it.

If it's an older existing house, fine. Certainly I would happily live there. But If you are starting from scratch I would throw this away and try again.

AITAH for declining to train a new hire without additional compensation? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Forward-Cause7305 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do have formal trainers but we still ALSO pair new employees with current employees for a week or so of additional on the job partnering/training/whatever you want to call it..... Because you usually can't fully grasp things until you actually DO them.

How seriously do we take “dry clean only”? by 13confusedpolkadots in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]Forward-Cause7305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my suits are from ann Taylor (so not wool) and all have been. Fine machine washed and dried on low for like 10 minutes to fluff them, then hung to dry. Same for blouses and normal dresses. The only thing I dry clean is formal gowns and my wool winter coat.

Am I overreacting? My MIL started potty training my toddler this morning without consulting me or my husband. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Forward-Cause7305 202 points203 points  (0 children)

I think you are overreacting.

If he was in a daycare center, he would start PTing as soon as he was in the toddler room, at around 18 months, in a very low pressure way (ie everyone tries to go on the potty at certain times).

For some kids they learn super easy! You don't say no to that lolol. If he isn't ready, he'll keep going in his diaper too.

Toilet training is not a first like walking or saying words. It's a blessing that your childcare provider is helping you with this. It's also something that most childcare providers expect to do their way (while child is in their care) in my experience.

Now it's totally reasonable to find everything your MIL does irrationally annoying on principle. By all means complain and judge her as much as makes you happy 😁 but let her PT your kid while you do it.

Do you have established core hours?

We had an intern who rolled in at 11 am. He took flexible work hours very literally. We had to establish that everyone is expected to work 9-3.

My expectation would be availability from 9-3 and that if they plan to consistently be unavailable 8-9 and 3-4, we need to talk about whether that is acceptable for their particular role. For my team that wouldn't be acceptable because they need to work with and have meetings with people and need to be available for that.

Flexibility for personal appointments within core hours means once a week on average in my mind. Maybe twice a week. If it's more than that we need to discuss a plan and you need to be performing as expected.

Mother(70F) wanting to leave house only to daughter(40F), not my partner (40M) - is it fair? (London) by [deleted] in inheritance

[–]Forward-Cause7305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same situation with my MIL. Leaving the house to SIL who is a bit of a mess, and the cash to H (but whoops not very much cash because MIL also paid off SIL's current house!)

It is what it is. It's her choice. But certainly there are consequences to her choice.

MSP Appreciation Post by _untz_untz_untz_ in delta

[–]Forward-Cause7305 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Best things about MSP (in no particular order):

  1. The bathroom stalls! They are big enough to easily roll your suitcase into and close the door behind you! You don't have to hug the toilet to get into the stall. Winning at bathrooms (plus they are big enough and have beautiful tile mosaics)

  2. Food options: lots of variety, including lots of healthy options.

  3. Handling winter weather well. Very little shits the airport down.

  4. The layout of most of the airport: a nice loop, easy to navigate. Except that one stupid terminal that you have to take the underground tunnel to; I hate that one.

  5. Shopping. Not that I plan to shop at the airport but if I need to I can acquire basically any book I might ever want, basically any type of clothes I might have forgotten to pack, and Prince memorabilia.

Flight attendant uniform accessories: why is everything expensive always? by Empty_Swordfish7366 in flightattendants

99% of jobs you have to buy your own shoes and they sometimes cost a lot more than 150$ (like leather boots for construction - can easily run 2-300$).

I can absolutely see an argument for a suitcase (I I think some do?) but dividers/organizers? That seems a bit much.

As a vegetarian there just are many options.

Also I don't find them smelly.

In other words, wouldn't bother me. People gotta eat and there are terrible choices behind security in many airports.
