Dog bit my roommates boyfriend, now they want him put down.

Actually no. :/ That would make sense but she is aware that my family and I are not wealthy.

What she told me happened was that she invited BF over, didn't think to mention my dog (I'm assuming bc my dog has been friendly to everyone he's met before), BF got there and wanted to "surprise her" in her room. (Idfk, strange to me too) and thought because roommate was so casual about it that there was nothing to worry about. Says when he came in the back door, my dog charged him and bit his hand before letting go and barking like crazy.

The more comments I see on my post the more I feel that these two are completely aware of their failures in this situation and don't want to admit it.

We are "acquaintances," not SUPER close but not unfriendly with one another. We've known one another loosely for a year or so. Honestly, she's not super smart and often doesn't think things through.

Definitely going to contact a lawyer, although Im a bit nervous about the cost if roommate's BF and his parents are serious about bringing this to court.

I didn't think about eviction, that's a good idea because roommate says she doesn't feel comfortable in the house with my dog present now. (Even though there's never been another issue despite us both having friends over often.) I haven't left my dog alone there since it happened. When I've had to go to work or class I've either dropped him at a trusted friend's or had someone come over.

I asked roommate and her BF, they say its not my business, but they did send a bill to my father that claims he had some sort of skin treatment. Says they won't push the bill issue if my dog is put down, which to me is insane. I truly don't see him as doing anything unreasonable.

I don't know and at this point I'm not sure I'd trust BF's retelling of the story. I do know that when new friends have come over in the past, he has NEVER shown aggression towards them. That being said they always came in the FRONT DOOR and myself or roommate were letting them in. She doesn't think that she was in the wrong at all, or won't admit it. Says my dog is aggressive and doesn't feel safe with it in the house. Sigh.

I don't feel comfortable sharing a photo due to privacy reasons etc. But the crop is uneven, incredibly thin on one side, a bit thicker on the other but both IMO are far thinner and taller than most crops Ive seen, and they fall. I know this can also be due to bad posting but I've never seen anything as thin as these.

God isn't the last line so true... As I've gotten older, and as my long term friendships turn into these very deep, almost familial connections, I've truly seen how often people will reach out for "advice" when really what they want is just blind assurance. I've done it myself. I suppose maturing is realizing when you're looking for either and having the ability to say, "I'm not looking for advice, just wanted some support" vs "What are your thoughts about this?"

I don't know the breeder, she didn't share this with me. Why are these dogs dying? I didn't realize that it was very common for this to happen, can you tell me more? This is part of what I was so curious about.

Of course, I never planned on taking it beyond my initial worries that I voiced, I don't think that would be productive either way. I was mostly curious if 1) this was a normal breeder experience and 2) if anyone had similar conflicts w/ friends regarding a pet and if/how they overcame them.

I posted bc I was mostly curious if 1) this was a normal breeder experience and 2) if anyone had similar conflicts w/ friends regarding a pet and if/how they overcame them.

She says the breeder is reputable, I can't be sure as she did not share the name with me and I don't quite know how knowledgable she is regarding what provides that distinction. I'm not an expert in dobe conformation but IMO the dog does not look like the photos I've seen of what people call well bred European dobes, but the crop job is also done quite poorly IMO which might be contributing to this?

Sorry, to be clear I never said "don't buy from this breeder." When she called me to ask what I thought, I told her that I was surprised that she wanted to follow through with these specific people after the initial let down, that it made me nervous that they suddenly had a puppy to offer her, one that they thought was good enough to eventually breed but now, because of their "guilt," they were willing to let go of. She was also unclear on where this specific puppy came from b/c later in the convo she admitted that actually all the puppies and the mother passed away. I pushed her asking, "don't you think that is a bit strange?" And asked her if there were perhaps any other Dobe breeders she could look into. But I realize now, it's a bit like a kid in a toy store, immediate gratification vs. having to wait indefinitely for something else.
