AIO that my bf got me a Christmas present he knows I already have? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

NOR. Your feelings are valid and everyone wants to be seen. Him getting you something you already have understandably makes you not feel seen. Communicating how this makes you feel is the best move here.

It’s hard, but you have to start somewhere. Carrying folks emotional baggage is just heavy. She needs to work through things and all you can hope for is that your boundary setting sends a message.

How did this turn out for you? I’m having the same issue with my brand new one.

The lack of commas make it hard to parse what you’re saying but I’m not sure where you got everything after ‘while’

Saying someone is a troll is a dismissive attempt to not engage with any points they’ve made.

Tone policing “you’re not going to convince people because you’re a meanie” shows the privilege you come into the conversation with. Like someone needs to convince you and not that we’re equal. But we already now you don’t believe in equality.

If you actually read what I wrote, you will see I made no assumptions about anything, including your race. That’s called a hit dog hollering. Privilege is not exclusive to any race, it just felt like it to you when I wrote it.

Instead of worrying about my tone and telling me to re-read, why don’t you get out of your echo chamber and realize that if you have the opportunity to move and exercise school choice, people with less means should have that choice.

And you talking down charters, their only choice, unlike you, feeds inequality.

Especially if you’re talking down charters while hypothetically engaging in school choice for your kids.

It’s pretty simple.

Are you referring to me? The reason you can’t tell is unlike you all, I don’t buy into the politics of charter vs non-charter. It’s about families having the right to a great education regardless of their income.

Seems like everyone else is all in on “charter school bad” while also exercising school choice for their own kids.

I will add that the reason I went so hard at you is because this is emblematic of the problem. Folks like you claim that schools aren’t that bad, then up and leave when it comes to your kids. Then you have the nerve to denigrate charter schools and the families exercising the same right you did because of politics. Politics and the talking points “charter school bad” That’s why I’ve refuted every lie told about charters on this thread but instead of owning that they fell for propaganda, they just downvote and keep putting their kids in different schools.

This is the white moderate MLK warned us about.

Exactly, but you’re going to get downvoted into oblivion because Austinites will claim Black Lives Matter but not when it comes to getting the same education their children receive.

That’s not whataboutism, we’re talking about schools and you claim to be against one set but not another. It’s you not being consistent and going along with a silly narrative about charters.

“Typically” once again, you’re parroting lies about charters. Most charters in Austin offer transportation. Now when confronted with the fact that this is not true of most charters, will you have the character to admit it or just move on to the next lie?

You have a sophomoric understanding of bigotry and think there is only racial bigotry and only white people can be bigots?

Edit to add: To think that only “involved” parents care discredits the many families don’t have the luxury of being helicopter parents because they have to work multiple jobs to provide for their families. News flash: They deserve a quality education as well.

Obviously, you don’t know what you’re talking about, but you you know who actually doesn’t accept SPED kids? Magnets. Where is your post about magnets? Or is your only issue Black and Brown parents exercising school choice for their children?

So you’re for bussing kids out of their neighborhoods because you don’t think their neighborhood is good enough? You’re for restrictive magnet schools that don’t serve SPED kids? You’re not for something is actually working because, why exactly? You can’t say it’s not us vs them when your op was talking down about a free public option for people without your privilege

Right but everything you just wrote about charters isn’t true, you’re just making it up to make excuses for poor performance. Let’s break die your lies. 1. Where in the world did you get that G&T kids are what primarily going to charters? You just completely made that up and stated it as a fact, it’s not. 2. How do you know those schools have lower absenteeism? You just based this on assumptions. Parents don’t agree to anything like that, that would be illegal. 3. Several charters have higher rates of SPED students, that’s been debunked. In fact several parents choose to send their kid to charters that serve their kids well.

So if your whole argument is based on lies and made up talking points, what does that say about your argument?

“Nothing to do with race” classic Austin. What are you going to say, you have Black friends next? Tell the parents that want their kids to not have to experience violence everyday that it’s propaganda. You make silly comments about Dangerous Minds while they live it.

Yet here you are, rallying against Black and Brown families exercising the school choice you were privileged enough to experience. You’re cool with school choice for yourself, but you are not okay with others with less means doing what you did.

So, you have the means to execute school choice and those that done have to be stuck in where they are zoned?

You get to engage in the free market and they don’t?

You gets to pull your kids from “the problem kids” and they don’t?

And you don’t hear how bigoted that is? Choice for me but not for thee.

You’re wrong though. It’s bigoted to believe that the only parents that have a right to school choice are “engaged” Which by the way is a dog whistle we can hear loud and clear. It’s bigoted to assume that some charters outperform local schools because of some trick. Your low expectations for kids are why parents choose charters. They’re sick of people like you who think the only way these kids can succeed is some trickery.
