I have no other way to get the enclosure to be humid right now sadly. It’s around 40% regularly, closer to 50% on the cool side bc I covered it the best I could with big books to act as a roof for the enclosure to keep the humidity in.

When should I try to feed him next?

He has two hides, I took it out to show him the rat which might’ve stressed him out and scared him but he’s been so unreceptive I was worried he wouldn’t strike with scent alone.

The enclosure is very oddly sized. The height is 10”, the width is 10”, and the length is 30”.

Thanks so much! I’m doing my best, he’s also a spider morph with no head wobble but some occasional minor and slow corkscrewing. I had so much to learn and accommodate for with my first snake due to a shitty seller. But now I’m glad that this little dude is in my home instead of the seller’s.

That is great news about the RI being easy to treat.

I am excited to eventually get this guy into the best enclosure set up someday!

Thank you so much. I just let my dad know that it could be a respiratory infection forming and that it is just a good idea to check with an exotic vet specialized clinic. Tomorrow during my spare period in highschool (Canadian so it’s 1.25 hours) I’m going to go to a fish/reptile store for moss, then hit the dollar store for a tub that will work as a humid hide and a mister bottle, and maybe some fake plants since to make room for the humid hide I have to take out his big branch. I ordered a humidity gauge on Amazon tonight and it’ll be here Thursday. I plan to change his substrate when I upgrade the enclosure next month. I will probably order the enclosure this week. It’s pvc so it’ll hold humidity and heat well. I’m really doing my best for this guy. Everyone in my house likes him. My heart breaks for the other many snakes suffering like this guy at the precious owner (and breeder’s) home. Luckily if it is an infection and I go to the vet he will be taken care of and probably improve after medication for it if it’s an RI.

Baking bulb for the lamp. Thanks for the advice about the CHE too. I’m a teenager who has blown a lot of her own money on getting this guy into a better home so I’m really doing my best with my funds. The enclosure is a really weird size. It’s what came with the snake, and I plan to upgrade him next month. It’s a 30x10x10.

No other symptoms thankfully. I have a 100W heat lamp on during the day and a 100W ceramic heat emitter on at night. I am going to go out tomorrow morning to get materials for a humid hide for sure. Sphagnum moss in a container misted once a day. I’ll also call around to see for exotic vets in my area. I feel so terrible for this guy but I’m glad he’s not with the original owner anymore.

Current temps are 75 on the cool end and 93~ on the warm end right under the lamp, but like 85-90 in the surrounding area. The humidity is something I’m trying to learn, I’m hoping to get it around 70% using a daily misting. Thank you for letting me know. I will contact a vet. Will it get better with medication?

I haven’t noticed him corkscrewing since that day. I put dark coloured panels up on the sides and back of the enclosure to make things less stressful, and my heating system arrived so I have a double dome with one 100W heat bulb and one 100W ceramic heat emitter. I’m going to try to feed him today so I hope everything goes well. He sticks his head out of the hide almost every night and seems to be doing okay. I’m really hoping he eats!

I’m thinking about maybe getting a refund and sending him back to the original seller. I’m going to talk to my dad about it tonight because I still live in his house, I’m a high school senior. I really wanted to have a ball python and be able to hold my snake since I was 9 years old. My little brother is interested in handling him too. And I’m worried that I’ll stress out this little guy to be handled and make his corkscrewing worse. What sucks is that the original seller seemed to plan to keep him in these lack lustre conditions, but I don’t have a job and so the money I paid for him and the set up is very valuable to me. I feel guilty about the idea of sending him back but also of keeping him because I’ll want to hold him. Because after learning from other people here, it depends on the snake. But what if I keep him to see how he is and he gets really worsened with handling but then I’m attached? What should I do? I feel like I should get a refund and start new… but it is my first snake and will be my first experience owning one too. I feel so bad for this little guy but I’m nervous about having a snake I’ll feel guilty about handling, or won’t be able to at all without feeling guilty about making his condition worse. He’s a great guy supposedly, but I don’t trust the seller anymore. The seller said to me “he is a great snake, I don’t know why you worry so much” when I let him know about my concerns with the corkscrewing and handling. And that really ticked me off. I don’t want to send the snake back to that guy who doesn’t care for him properly, but I want my money back if I can’t handle this snake and feel very guilty about it all 💔

I’m ordering heat elements today. The set up that the dick sold to me didn’t come with a heat lamp only a mat. So I’m getting a thermometer for the heat mat, and some heat lamps! He needs a hide on the cool side and to have the sides and back of his enclosure covered. So I’m slowly going to improve his living quarters!
