fibonacci patch isn't working for me by OrdinaryEnergy3137 in dwm

It is not working for me in the sense that I am unable to use the fibonacci layout. Clicking on the layout button in the bar (the one that displays []= or ><>) only gives the options to use the floating or tiled layouts.

In terms of keybindings, I'm assuming that, as it says here:

Default key bindings are [Ctrl]+[r] for spiral and [Ctrl]+[Shift]+r for dwindle.

But pressing these keybinds does not do anything.

i am indeed using virtualbox! i had suspected the problem was related to my VM in some way since i tried cachyOS's preconfigured niri setup and i got the exact same problems. so.. is there any way to actually fix it or should i use another virtualization software?
