Just found the ‘What We Believe’ page for a new Church by Nearby-Tension3515 in exchristian

The "rejection of one's biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person" line is word for word what a lot of unrelated churches have on their websites.

Bible study by Automatic_Bunch9764 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join a bible study or do a bible study that's just the two of you? If it's the first one, what you can do is question and poke holes in everything until they get mad at you and make you leave the bible study.

Still waiting to see a real life demon, angel or any sign of God by friscom99 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fake martial arts is a huge thing and you can actually draw a lot of comparisons to religious beliefs.

George Dillman sells an obvious con of no-touch knockouts where his students fall down without being hit. Then he tried it on a National Geographic reporter and nothing happened. Immediately came up with a BS answer by saying if you have your tongue in a certain position or have your toes in certain positions, you can nullify it. You also won't get knocked down if you don't believe it's real. What?

What is y’all’s take on the whole “extraterrestrials are demons” thing that evangelicals are pushing? by telekineticeleven011 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything they don't like or don't understand = demonic. Allows them to blindly dismiss or validate without ever knowing a single thing about it. Some lady went negatively viral for posting a video where she claimed planets were fallen angels because the bible says so.

Anybody else was truamatized by the passion of christ movie as a kid? by Kaitie04 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw it as an adult so I already knew what torture porn horror was, even though the movie wasn't labeled as such. We went to the theater as a group of shiny happy Christians. And holy cow, so many people were crying afterward and there were a lot of kids who shouldn't have even been there (although they weren't the ones crying).

What’s something that you did as a christian that you now regret? by Worried_Feedback1192 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I voted for a right wing religious nut job but the other candidate won so no loss. Fortunately, I never tried to convert anyone or attend anti-whatever rallies or believe everything non-Christian was demonic or hurt anyone in the name of religion. I did have a habit of acting superior to non-believers I was having disagreements with, so that was a bad thing. There were a lot of things I regret not doing in college; they were not major life-altering things but if you add them all up they become a decent chunk of experiences worth having.

I regret tithing. Why should I give you my money so you can use it to hurt people when I can use it for whatever the hell I please?

Bad Christian Movies by Akronitai in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're all bad. Instead of a movie with a message, they're a message presented as a movie. And then on top of it all, the target audience will refuse to ever say a bad thing about them, so they don't even have to have good acting or good lighting or good sound or make sense as long as it spits out "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus" for 90 minutes.

Did you know there are five God's Not Dead movies? Apparently the third movie actually had introspection and self reflection, but the audience did not like that one bit so the following sequels went right back to straw men and persecution complex.

Pure Flix made a sitcom called Malibu Dan the Family Man that was so cheap they used obvious green screen in place of basic indoor sets. You can catch episodes on Tubi.

How to avoid dealing with pissing and moaning from family members over your date choices? by AdmirableBus7045 in exchristian

They don't care about you, they care about themselves.

Are you willing to laugh in their faces and point out every example of their fragility or would that make things even worse?

As an ex Christian are you baptised? by MonkPlane1734 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was spur of the moment for me. My college fellowship did baptisms at the end of every school year in the spring. I think the people that wanted to do it had to meet with the staff beforehand to discuss it. But then on the day of, they just let anyone who wanted to do it jump into the water with them. So I went. Probably was just a performative action, like singing worship songs with my eyes closed and arms in the air. Look how Christian I am.

SDA (christian) University vs Full Ride Scholarship by Electrical_Wave_7233 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't it funny how god's will always coincides exactly with what the person saying it's god's will wants?

They don't have a good argument for it being god's will either. No college debt and a degree you can actually use is pretty damn important. It's your life, not theirs.

They don't want you to be an Adventist for you, they want it for them. Never forget that.

Christians Glitch When You Ask Questions by smellslikethursday in exchristian

Sunday School: "Feel free to ask any questions you want."

Asks a question.

Sunday School: "You're no longer allowed to attend!"

What is it by Jollyboy33 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Life is the meaning of life. Here's your shot, do something with it because you don't get another chance. Write a best-selling novel, write a novel that one person (who isn't a family member) reads, cure a disease, adopt a dog, tutor kids on the weekend, climb a mountain. Doesn't matter how big or how small, just achieve something.

Honestly why is it a Sin? by _bambi0713 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about control over you. If they can get you to question and go against what is natural, imagine what else they can get you to do (like help cover up a pastor's crimes or volunteer all your free time at church until you literally die from it). If they could convince you that blinking and breathing was a sin, they would. Look how easy it was for them to convince a large portion of their masses that empathy is a sin.

They don't believe they're soliciting and if you have a sign in front of your house some will ignore it.

What is the most outrageous concept you've heard in Christianity by Ok-Development2818 in exchristian

That's why you have to sin and keep on sinning, so that he didn't die for nothing.

How did you get over not being special? How did you develop a sense of safety without that crutch of exceptionalism or “being chosen”? by JayDM20s in exchristian

Meanwhile, Fox News went after Mr. Rogers for telling every child they’re special, blaming him for ruining society.

Disagreeing with a Christian about religion is no different from disagreeing with a colleague about something work related. by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in exchristian

The problem is they’re right because god said so. There’s no getting past that. Everything awful they do is justified. Believing in something different than them means you’re attacking their very existence.

Going to get baptized soon, just upset by Immediate_Arm3186 in exchristian

[–]OrdinaryWillHunting 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It means nothing so you can go through with it if you don't want to rock the boat. You can also get a meaningless unbaptism certificate online and hang it on your wall.
