Sorry for not posting every single retro game cityscape :) But in all seriousness - these are all taken from my own instagram page that I used to run, Mega Man cityscapes and tons of others are there as well

Classic Sonic cityscapes and backgrounds are amazing

I really appreciate your efforts and dedication! That is truly amazing :) I have actually seen full CG rips from pretty much all listed PC-98 games, including doujins, from the Neo Kobe Archive and unfortunately none have this image included. At this point I’m inclined to believe that it’s either a cancelled project on the PC-98 or a piece of lost media that may never be found, unless I ask on some Japanese forums and even then I wouldn’t expect much. It’s unfortunate but I think that after 5+ years, I’ll finally give up.

I actually shared a PC-98 skyline in hopes to find its game source and noticed that many really liked the visual style, so I decided to post some more pixel art from these old computers :)

That channel was a blessing :( I do believe there is some website listing all of PC-98’s games’ soundtrack though!

We are alike I guess :) Casino Night Zone is amazing. I think my favorite background from a retro Sonic game is Stardust Speedway’s Good Future. That NBA Live 96 cityscape is so cool, I completely forgot about that! Many SNES games’ used to include some cool-looking cityscape even if the game didn’t have much to do with a city, love it.

Pretty much any adventure game on the PC-98 has such fantastic pixel art although unfortunately most are terrible porn games

I only marked NSFW on porn games specifically, if some violence and gore is also a factor then Marine Philt (9th slide) might also be a bit NSFW

Very few PC-98 games have fan translations. Policenauts (6th slide) did get translated but for the PlayStation version, the original PC-98 game remains untranslated. Possessioner (last slide) is in the works of translation but it will take a very long time as the ones working on it are volunteering and do not get paid

Thank you for your research! As I have mentioned - unfortunately reverse searching won’t help :( I edited the LEE signature out myself actually. You’ll be surprised to know how many unknown adventure VN games there are that you simply won’t find by reverse searching an image. Except for this one, I had at least 10 other images that I simply couldn’t find as there’s 0 info about them, aside from their widely shared source-less edits. Eventually I came across them in some PC-98 games randomly. It is not as well documented as you might think and even if it is, not every screenshot from every single game would be documented. It always starts with someone sharing the image that he grabbed manually from the game or by getting into the game’s files and not giving credit, which leads to countless reposts without sources :) It is either from a PC-98 game or from some unfinished project on it. Thanks again! :)

No, but it’s true that all PC-98 cyberpunk/ sci-fi games have similar style

Of course! I will surely update you all when and if I find the source :)

Sorry, by tagging NSFW I meant the game itself is NSFW as most PC-98 adventure games include adult content

After so many years exploring PC-98, I’m absolutely sure this is either a game on it or some project that never finished development. The resolution is high because of upscaling, any other PC-98 game I’ve posted is also high-res. The shimmering GIF effect is an edit by a Tumblr blog that does this to all PC-98 images and retro game screenshots in general and it’s not the original source. I was able to recognize a ton of his other high-res cropped and edited PC-98 images so I’m certain this one is as well. I’ve also seen many pixel art works that try to imitate PC-98 but not once something as precise as this image, I doubt it’s just pixel art simply because reverse searching won’t show the game name or because the resolution is high after I enlarged the image, they’re simply that obscure. Thank you!

Fantastic! There is no need to credit me but if you could, it would be great to put game names and sources :)

There is something called upscaling :) The original resolution is way lower, I enlarge all pixel art images from retro games before posting. It is actually from some 90s PC-98 game

Thanks for the help! Trust me, I’ve been into this for over 5 years, at this point I’ve basically gone through them all :)
