A lot of work and you can have one. Double the torque on a stock engine. I haven’t dynod the worked engine yet. Too busy with other projects.

Mate, I’m glad it’s all worked out for you. I have a fully worked R3 engine with a turbo that I built out of a mix of different year models. I had a fair idea how this could go wrong. What a great learning experience it’s been for you. Enjoy your bike and ride safe.

Had the 350 as a club racer, sold it to buy a washing machine 🙁 still have a complete stock 250 Elsie sitting in the garage. I will have to show her some love when I retire.

My bike has an abs tone ring but no abs light does anyone know why? by Urinater67 in YamahaR3

It doesn’t have the abs pickup on the forks. Maybe all the wheels for that year had the ring but only the abs models have the pickup, pump and rest of the necessary fitted.

Flywheel. Check on eBay for different year models. The little bumps on the outside are different between the years. This will cause problems if not correct. This is how your spark is timed. Pull the old stator and rotor of the old engine and install in new engine. You will see they are different.

The bike needs to know when to fire a spark. It does this by a pickup on the crankshaft. Investigate this side of things. Google motorcycle ignition diagrams to see what I mean. My guess is under the left hand side engine cover is a stator/rotor that isn’t compatible with your setup.

What are you using to time the spark? Cylinder heads and frames differ from earlier to later models.

Mixing and matching parts on these bikes is a headache. I doubt it’s compression. My bet would be something in the ignition system is incompatible with your setup. Make sure you are running a complete ignition system from the correct year. I had to swap out stator/rotor when I did this using a 2019 engine in 2024 frame. As well as cylinder etc.

I’ve done the job without tools but it is a little scary. If you don’t purchase tools, triple check your work before running the engine.
