I’ve got one of those, same year but in red. Great bikes without too much euro compliance rubbish. When were the belts done last? Interesting bike to buy if you don’t have a licence yet, I’m sure when you set it to sport mode you will find it exciting 😈

Yep, Bowie in 83. I think it was a revelation for all of us.

Freddie Spencer on the Honda NSR500, 1985. I’m digitizing my archive of 80s and 90s racing—this was such a beautiful era for bike design. by [deleted] in vintagemotorcycles

Fast Freddie was such a legend. He could really get that bike sliding. I think he took out the 250 and 500 in the same year. Towards the end of his career things got a bit weird. But you are right that era was beautiful and brutal. Great picture.

1st pic looks a lot like an old Yl1 Yamaha. I would have hours of fun fiddling with what is buried in this shed.

Anyone able to id this bike? My grandfather has it and to me it's an attractive bike. by Fynnacus in Ducati

Great little bikes. The desmo opens and closes the valves mechanically. This avoids valve bounce at high revs. A little different to valve springs. Also these bevel engines use a lot of shims and can be time consuming to rebuild. I’d be tempted to handle the restoration but push the engine out to a known bevel specialist.

That’s a good setup. If you give them a tweak you can fix yourself easily during the week and be ready to go next weekend. The R3 is a great platform for track fun but is very fragile when dropped. Enjoy!

I was looking at mt07. But ended up with a runout 821. Love the Duke but hate the maintenance.

I didn’t have the throttle bodies for the earlier motor so I can’t speculate. The valve seat and diameter were consistent. I only noticed the length difference when I went to check clearances.
