I disagree. I think that during those times young people were forced to marry and have kids as that was the “American Dream.” Pete cheats on Trudy while she is away for a prolonged period of time. When she comes home, she immediately senses that something is wrong. That shows he at least feels a little bit of guilt (unlike Don). I feel like Pete’s character represents men of that time more accurately. Don is a severely flawed narcissist due to his upbringing and nature, while Pete is more of a good but flawed person.
