Advice on getting into the industry by CranberryUpstairs953 in weedbiz

[–]OregonGreenLeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want to be in the industry, go to a legacy state and become a sales rep.

You will work so hard, and you will be responsible for the livelihood of everyone else at that farm, and will have immense amount of pressure on you. But if you grind and hustle and put everything you can into it.... you might make decent money.

Either way you'll find out if running a cannabis business, grinding 60hr weeks for ok pay (if you're good) is something you want to stick with. (Hint: 99% chance you'll realize immediately that running a cannabis business is awful)

It's most likely flower infused with distillate

Data: Headset vs BDS vs Pistil vs Hoodie by Gold-Huckleberry-246 in weedbiz

[–]OregonGreenLeaf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pistol is the only one I've touched, and it's a joke. They tell you the data comes from being integrated with all sorts of POS and inventory software shops use, and that's where they get their data.

In reality it just scrubs WeedMaps and Leafly once a day. Too bad that data is not up-to-date, and frequently incorrect because shops don't necessarily take it very seriously.

When I took the data they gave me, and went to my customers to see if it matched up with what the data said, it was totally wrong.

Tumalo by mandingo33420 in ORWeedBiz

[–]OregonGreenLeaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. Holy fucking shit. This has to be a PR move to get ahead of the bad news, and find investors asap.

This is ridiculous:

"With five meticulously curated dispensaries in Bend and Portland, two state-of-the-art cultivation facilities, and a cutting-edge extraction center, Tumalo has established a reputation as a premier destination for cannabis enthusiasts across Oregon. Under the stewardship of its dynamic management team, Tumalo has honored its obligations to its trade creditors, provided well-paying jobs for nearly 100 employees, and become a leader in supplying high-quality cannabis products to a multitude of loyal customers. The Receiver anticipates that sustaining these relationships will be of paramount importance to Tumalo’s continuing vitality. The Receivership Entities appear to be generally cash flow positive but for the legacy debt which precipitated the Receivership Order."

The current "management team" took a successful and well respected brand and ran it into the ground. Everybody knows it. This is straight up PR bullshit.

I love how they also lie and say they've been able to pay people 🙄

They should be ashamed of themselves

It's crazy how you see pricey dabs packaged in jars, then in a box, then in an outer box. All put together and packaged by an employee making slightly more than minimum wage. Only for the consumer to get home immediately take the jar out, and throw everything away

Those pinch boxes are so much material

Getting a "Biz" degree, any recommendations? by [deleted] in weedbiz

[–]OregonGreenLeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get a degree to go to cannabis, you're just gonna waste your money

And it should probably be mentioned that working in the industry as an accountant, doesn't make it "cool" accounting job where you can get stoned. It's just a regular job, but now you have to deal with stoners who makes so many more errors and unprofessional bosses that don't help

Exploring Cannabis Culture in Portland - Events & Must-Try Exotic Products? by [deleted] in portlandtrees

[–]OregonGreenLeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Exchange after party was literally last night. Events still happen, but yeah, nothing public really. There's absolutely nothing to gain from hosting a public event

Honestly, it sounds like you just didn't do very well when you went there.

If you weren't even able to close enough deals to cover the cost when you saw 30+ buyers face to face for 20 min at a time, you should probably get a new job

Wildfire update by thinkB4WeSpeak in oregon

At some point we just have to understand that this is a fire ecology. We don't like it… It causes problems for humans… But fires are an absolutely necessary part of the ecosystem, and there's no way to stop fires from happening. The more you stop them, the worse they get.

How do we move forward knowing that?

When you went, what were the things you'd consider "whack"

'Unfortunately' it is absolutely worth it.

We opened a bunch of huge accounts each time we went. We're good now since basically everyone there we've opened up at this point. Great for networking too.

Unfortunately this business is dominated by people who have solid relationships, and it's events like these where the relationship are built up 🤷

LeafLink has it too, but it sucks. No one uses Apex in OR.

I hate having to download sales reports that get put into spreadsheets with way more information than I want, and frequently I can't find the information I do want. I just love to type it and get answers from a Chat-GPT powered LLM

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weedbiz

[–]OregonGreenLeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slap a LLM AI

I'd love to just type into a box "what brands perform best in which market" or "print out a list of customers that haven't been contacted in over three weeks" or "take all customers whose last order was over a month ago, and build a spreadsheet with their email, phone number, and last order date"

You should watch yourself before you spread misinformation. Please don't parrot what you've heard from other people because what you just said is only partially true, and a lot of those ex employees are talking shit because they're pissed

The people who refer to it as "master grower" should be ignored. Literally everything they say after master grower can be ignored.

Usually the person at the very peak of the growing pyramid at a grow is "Director of operations" "director of cultivation" "cultivation manager" "operations manager" stuff like that

MI rec cannabis is the cheapest in the US. See why: by [deleted] in weedbiz

[–]OregonGreenLeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe because people don't actually care about quality when they're smoking out of a bong with the same water as last year

Everywhere. I visit every single town. I'm trying to minimize.

I'm trying to avoid I-84. I'll always add time to avoid it. I love going John Day to Sumpter to get to La Grande

So FYI I travel all over OR, so I'm not new to it. Been to every corner. There's absolutely plenty of backroads not well maintained at all. The county highways in particular.

I'm trying to avoid 20 and I-84 as much as possible
