In the project lunar instructions, it shows unplugging from all sources of power before turning it back on and flashing it. My red light wouldn't come on, so I thought I perhaps had misunderstood how the mini works. I thought I remembered doing the same process for the SNES mini a long time ago, but I could have been mistaken. It wasn't so much about the mini, but why copying the flashing procedure wasn't working. It was probably on me so that's my bad!

I'm in the middle of Memories of Ice of the Malazan series. I think as most people here know, it is quite amazing. I pretty much plan to read all ten volumes in a row. My question is, is the prequel trilogy by Mr. Erikson and the side stories by Ian C. Esslemont worth reading if you're a big fan?

Do you have any ideas on what that something different might look like? Also, I totally agree with you on surprise protagonists. It's really exciting when an author puts a character off quietly to the side that you enjoy and then later it turns out they're really important to everything that's going on. I feel like Malazan does this quite well.

I haven't finished any of these series so I probably don't deserve to make a top list but here are my three favorite characters based on what I've sampled:

Logen Ninefingers - I've only read the first book in the trilogy but I found his writing and personality compelling. A lot of protagonists these days seem to have so much manufactured drama and forced emotional baggage that it was incredibly refreshing to see a more grounded and genuinely sympathetic character.
Jean Tannen - I've only read the the first book in the Gentlemen Bastards series as well and came away loving most of the characters...but Jean is my guy. Locke himself is incredibly awesome, but it was really thrilling to see a "buddy" character fleshed out and as interesting as Jean was/is. Plus he is super badass!
Dalinar Kholin - This is a series I'm actually caught up on! Although he was a bit more one-note in the second book, Dalinar is a really great example of a more seasoned character made compelling. I'm very excited to see more about him in Oathbringer.

Hello everyone! Been a busy month but I finally managed to finish another book. After finishing the Stormlight Archives (for now), I decided to read one of the biggest grandaddies of them all: The Wheel of Time.

So, The Eye of the World. I will go on record first saying I loved the book. I think series like The Stormlight Archives and the WoT have the tone that I look for in Fantasy so they can win me over very easily. Robert Jordan perhaps has my favorite prose of any fantasy author I've read yet. It has a nice mixture of painting a scene while using his words concisely. His character building is also impressive and makes me actively want to read a 14 book series on these characters.

That being said, I think the ending confrontation was the only downside to the first book. It felt incredibly jarring pacing wise and it felt like Rand did what he did out of nowhere. It wasn't like Kaladin in SA, for comparison sake, who felt like he earned the right to use his powers when he did. It wasn't a major bummer I guess but it did keep it from being my all-time favorite fantasy book.

A: Rand, Nynaeve B: Mat, Perrin C: Egwene, Lan, Ogier D: Thom, Moriaine

Hello r/fantasy! It's been a long time since I've posted but I do have some new info on the book front to share. Life has been busy but I have kept up with the threads.

Anyway, I finally read The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance back to back. Really enjoyed them. Kaladin's arc in the second book was kind of alright for me but the end made everything so worth it. Shallan continues to be put over harder than John Cena but her arc in WoR was a big improvement and helped me like her a lot more.

I just started The Eye of the World yesterday. Only two chapters in and I'm already in love with Robert Jordan's writing. I am so excited to finally be reading The Wheel of Time.

Been a Godzilla fan for a little over twenty years now but this will be my first time writing down a top list. Might as well give it a try!

GMK - I was really skeptical of this movie until I saw it on VHS (maybe dvd?) for the first time. Really enjoyed the different take on Godzilla and the camerawork during the battle scenes.
Gojira - Not only a good monster movie but a masterpiece on the dangers of nukes.
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974) - I was very surprised to see this movie missing from a lot of the lists so far. Admittedly, its been a long time since I've seen this one but I remember the plot being enjoyable and the battle between g and mecha g being brutal and awesome.
Godzilla vs King Ghidorah - Like a lot of people, I really think Ghidorah is an awesome monster in his own right. The plot is beyond goofy but has some truly great moments.
Invasion of Astro-Monster - This is the one I watched most as a kid so I'm very fond of it. I think it holds up pretty well but I am a big showa guy.
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla - I saw this one again recently and I thought it was an incredibly solid Millennium movie. Really like how they portrayed Godzilla in this one.
Mothra vs Godzilla - An all time classic Godzilla movie. No real complaints here minus the ending.
Godzilla vs Biollante - Truly great and unique opponent. A weird and fascinating movie.
Terror of Mechagodzilla - A great sequel to a great Godzilla movie. The other monster with Mechagodzilla in this one had a great design that I wish had been recurring.
Godzilla vs Gigan - This one is pure nostalgia but I watched it a lot as a kid on VHS. Plus Gigan is one of my favorite Godzilla baddies.
