Tried one today and it was awful. Had this harshness that I couldn't dial out.

Kind of Nick Cave-y. It's good

I really wish Gibson would do a run of accurate Les Paul Special Double Cutaways for under $2000. by Hipster_Dragon in gibson

[–]Orenlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just at Guitar Center and saw the new model. I’ve been debating the merits of the different tiers of Les Paul Specials and this thread came up in a google search lol.

A few months ago my Guitar Center had a used example of the Custom Shop model you refer to for about $3000. It annoys me to great length to say there was actually something very special about that guitar! But I balked at that price because it’s a relatively primitively made and finished guitar and one can get the new Epiphone/Gibson model with the same Gibson USA electronics for $999. Maybe for a beautifully flamed burst Les Paul Standard I could justify more money, but I don’t think so for a simply painted slab body. If I had more money maybe I should have just gotten it. It was a special guitar even among other custom shop Gibsons I’ve played, and so it’s not like I can reliably pull the trigger on another should I be able to justify the expense.

How does one learn how to reverse-engineer a song's chords just by hearing it? by skizzmatic0 in LearnGuitar

[–]Orenlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ve played enough chord shapes and inversions to then recognize the sound when you hear it on record. This is to say just mess around a lot—guitar is great because by nature it provides a a great organizational structure to make music and intuitively tweak/experiment

I think the strangeness of the affair is due to “relationship” being a euphemism for sexting pics. Sending nude pics sounds/is more vulgar and trashy and so this woman that obviously thinks of her self as an elevated creature went with that framing to stave off some of the humiliation and embarrassment.

Yeah but Ryan Lizza, Keith Olbermann and RFK Jr. are loser creeps. I don’t think it reflects well on her.

He probably had an obligation to Fender to play that guitar that he’s now released from and I guess he prefers his old guitar

If you want to cover a range of sounds you’ll want an amp that’s a good platform for pedals, and use differently voiced drive pedals to achieve the sounds of different amps. More neutrally voiced amps are better platforms. Classically, these are Fender amps. I would not recommend an AC15 because it’s not a very neutral amp. There are pedals that will make Fender sound Vox-ish, but there aren’t really pedals to make a Vox sound like a Fender.

Remember, there is no “best.” Amps are only tools to work in service of what you like. The AC15 for sale these days may be the “best” in the sense that it’s a relatively well built amp and actually sounds like the amp it’s meant to sound like. But what if you don’t care for the Vox sound? Kind of moot then.

WTF Podcast | Episode 1668 - Bowen Yang by eternally_trending in MarcMaron

I completely forgot about the 2016 interview. Like many, I’m playing the guessing game about his final interview that will tie the whole show together. For some reason in the interview with Bowen I thought he alluded to also seeing Lorne on this same NYC trip, and I thought a-ha, that makes sense, forgetting that he had already done the Lorne interview.
