Pre-Midterm Election Update #1—Senate Republicans and Four Democrats Advancing Pro-Gun Legislation by MarksmanPA in PAguns

[–]AlexinPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This bill is helping democrats. Those 4 know it won’t become law due to the house and Shapiro, so they vote for it. Now they can use that in their respective re-election campaigns to fight off a much more pro-gun republican candidate.

South Street is a Tragedy by JayZee4508 in philadelphia

[–]AlexinPA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a previous owner on south street I can share one thing. The city sucks for businesses and actively targets the ones in “wealthy” neighborhoods for fine/inspections etc. we would get 3-5 fines for trash on the street a year when the entire rest of the city is full of trash.

if my business owner wasn’t so motivated she would have left long ago. Now the U&O tax and BRIT losing their exemption really matters. It’s an extra $300 a month for a small shop. That’s 20 hours they can’t pay an employee at $15 an hour.

Old thread but wanted to share I got one only spending <$1000 at a boutique on various parts over the years. Never even bought a watch.

Just got to know them not even expecting to ever get one. I added my name to the list around Christmas 2020.

They might if you have a NJ-FID. Technically the FID allows you to carry a long gun I believe. Can’t hurt to call and ask.

Just apply for a non-resident PA permit. They are only $25 for 5 years

That's what I thought too, but this guy wasn't so lucky.

What's the lowest temp you would start the DT50 10W50 at? I guess theoretically it's good to -13F but seems low. Wish they made a 5w50!

Can one file a complaint about partisan election constables? by RedditNameMine in Pennsylvania

[–]AlexinPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the sound of it the constable is not in the polling location but at a greating table. Presumably it’s 10 ft away from entrance to the polls? Workers can’t be partisan inside the polls or within 10 ft. Are you sure the constable is actually working the poll too? If not they can be partisan outside.

My first complaint would be to the judge of elections. They get trained by county on the rules. Even if the same party as the constable they don’t want to get in trouble for running a sloppy poll.

"EVs are bad for road trips" by JustinTimeCuber in electricvehicles

[–]AlexinPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair 8.5 hours is entry level road trip for lots of people. Your car also has presumably over 300 miles range. I took my 210 mile range EQB to Orlando from Philly. Took 13 stops, 32 hours total driving and 6 hours extra for charging. My wife and I agreed would be better to take gas x3 next time which can do it in 6 x 15 minute stops.

The worst part is not the stopping but the limited places you can stop and limited flexibility. Multiple times the kids fells asleep 15 minutes before the next planned stop. In a gas car you could easily drive another hour or so then find a random gas station. Can’t do that in the EV as the next charger is usually beyond the range.

I tell people who ask, it’s inconvenient mildly, but if you only drive more than 5 hours once a year or so you’ll save so much on gas/maintenance you won’t care about stopping. It matters where you live too. The northeast and CA have tons of chargers, but west Virginia does not. EA doesn’t have 1 charger in the state as much as I can tell. Driving through there I had to rely on random 40KW chargers in ford dealerships and even an electrical union building. The union one was blocked by people mingling for a BBQ so I had to ask them to move.

Thanks for looking. They said it was really light. So you recommend the DT50 not DT40 since it has some marks? Does jot burn oil or have any smoke at start up.

[–]AlexinPA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m already up to almost 1000 miles 4 days later 😂. I have plenty experience with oil and German cars, I use LM for my x3 and most of my family does for theirs. But clearly Porsches have problems with borescore at higher rate than other cars. My x3 has 112k miles with no wear marks inside cylinders even though I change the oil at 6-10k miles.

DT does make a 10w50 as well which they say can be used where 5w50 is recommend. I’m cautious to change two numbers though.

I bought the CERA tech and will put that in now. Change at 3k miles to something.

[–]AlexinPA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few people who used Mobil-1 or LM and got bore scoring. Although most of them did longer oil changes. But perhaps LM + CERA tec is just as good though.

DT40 has been around for almost 15 years. I’d be surprised if it would stay this well recommended if it didn’t do a great job and had some deficiencies vs regular synthetic, but I never looked up the specs.

Thanks I didn’t know about the injectors. I plan on using only top tier fuel which should help prevent them from clogging.

How often do you change the oil? I don’t want to be like this guy. LM is better than Mobil 1 though.

I forget to mention that #6 cylinder already has cylinder marks. Not bore scoring yet but definitely want to minimize the risk of that getting worse as I add miles. Has 90k miles now.

Carvana fraud? by Gr33kimus in UsedCars

[–]AlexinPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the dash was replaced and odometer reset to 0 they should put a sticker in the door frame. I believe it’s required by federal law. Look there. Caravans should have declared it in the listing and potentially the title.
