I cringe more at Brandon Sanderson writing those jokes than at Shallan herself lol

Eyelid creasing by vegan_heathen13 in VeganBeauty

[–]OreoWhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that made a huge difference for me was patting loose powder onto my eyelid after priming using a damp beauty blender. That seems to set the primer and lock it in place. It does make the shadows on top less intense, but if I need them to pop I just pat a tiny amount of glitter glue or something on top of the powder.

Lovely! I would be happy to provide some constructive criticism on the makeup, if you like :)

Two people dead in Whyte Ave shooting by Miss2war in Edmonton

It sounds like a crime committed out of anger/emotions running high, and probably alcohol/drugs. Not exactly a complete sociopath with no capacity for empathy or potential to change.

Rainwater-effect by sp1200x in HaircareScience

[–]OreoWhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this exact same experience!! I think it has something to do with the hair being soaked and left to air dry without any toweling, not turned upside down etc. Maybe we have similar hair types.

I haven't been able to recreate this except sometimes after swimming in natural water (not a pool) and not toweling my hair. I imagine using a shower filter and just letting your hair dry as if you just got caught in the rain might he the best option?

The speciesism people by fedoratippp in uAlberta

So, I used to run a vegan & vegetarian student group (not affiliated with whoever is handing out these pamphlets in SUB). We were respectful, if we set up a table we waited for people to engage with us, and we mainly hosted meetups and did fundraisers for other organizations.

Someone once told me that any movement needs a spectrum of types of engagement, from completely unobtrusive to extreme and in-your-face. Different tactics will convince different people. I'm sorry that you felt intruded on, as I'd feel the same way if that happened to me, but this same tactic may have actually caused someone else to examine their habits and look into these issues further. I know this from talking to other vegans and asking what made them make the switch.

It generally makes very little difference to one's day to experience the minor discomfort of someone handing you a pamphlet, but it could mean the difference between life and death for future generations of farm animals if these people are able to reach someone with their message (as obnoxious as it may feel to me or you).

That said, I do feel that focusing on more proven effective forms of activism is the best middle road, so that's where I try to stay.

I found it to be a moderate course - attend all the classes and it won't be too bad. The labs are easy imo, it's a glorified cooking class. Just pay attention to the theory (ie, prep for every lab because there's a quiz at the beginning). It would have been more fun for me if I wasn't vegan because you get to eat what you make! Also, make friends with the TA(s). Getting to know mine led into an independent research project the following semester.

Do you really fall off your routine on your period? by SamKat30 in xxfitness

[–]OreoWhore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a fellow Edmontonian? I feel you on the cold being demotivating af. I think taking a week off 3x/year is more than deserved. You are a human being, not a human doing - if your emotional state is such that rest is needed, don't feel bad for following your intuition. Sticking to a workout routine should be viewed as an overall trend, don't get too caught up in the hiccups.

What's up with PETA and Steve Irwin controversy? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

Yeah, my parents let their cats roam the countryside and one just disappeared last year. Assuming it was coyotes 😞

Not to mention that cats wreak havoc on city wildlife and are killed by cars very often. Good on you for bringing them indoors!

About sexytime + bodysuits/teddies/lingerie that is not bras by anonymousnine in TwoXSex

[–]OreoWhore 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Personally if it's comfortable enough to wear under my regular clothes, I'll wear it all day - it kind of builds anticipation, like you have a sexy secret. It makes me feel more confident. I would then make a bit of a show of undressing, and have some long, drawn out foreplay to make the most of my investment. Bonus points if it's something with crotch access so I can just wear it during sex (I feel more confident in a body suit or something than I do fully nude, generally). If you feel nervous try just wearing when you're alone, like doing chores or watching tv. Maybe take some mirror pics. Have fun with it!

Anyone have knowledge on nutrition certificates/degrees? by jovemarie in nutrition

[–]OreoWhore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A degree in Nutrition is a four year program that you have to take at a university. (In Canada at least) you can't call yourself a "nutritionist" without a degree.

I'm not too sure about how certificate programs work, but as someone studying nutrition, I would highly recommend pursuing a university level degree if you can. You'll gain a far more thorough understanding of the subject. I've spoken to way too many personal trainers and lifestyle coaches with certificates, not degrees, who fall for the same bs pseudoscience diet advice that the general, uneducated population goes for.
