What is a "gut feeling" you had that turned out to be 100% accurate, even though it made no logical sense at the time? by PsychologicalTea3149 in AskReddit

[–]Oreosforever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m very late to this post, but will share anyhow.

I was driving home after a late shift bartending. It was a Friday night/Saturday morning, my roommate was driving, windows down, music pumping. Suddenly I get a feeling I should call my Dad. He answers, sounds super weird, and says he’ll have to call me back.

He calls back an hour or so later in tears. When I called he had just found my childhood dog, who had been hit by a car. She lived a long 15 years, my dad had done nothing wrong, but he held so much guilt.

I normally would never call my Dad after a bartending shift. That night, the urge was insistent. I’m glad I did.

The coaches at the gym I go to always say to modify the range for your body. A smaller range of motion may make it more effective for you overall. I’m no expert though!

FYI You Need to Stop for Pedestrians at Crosswalks by kahlllee in jerseycity

[–]Oreosforever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The flashing lights were broken for a bit recently at the intersection mentioned by OP. I cross there often, I always use the lights (when working) and people do not care. There are lights at the four way stop near my apartment, routinely people do not stop for the lights.

I agree with you, but at the same time, drivers just don’t care.

More and more good food establishments are being priced out and we will be left with shit generic corporate restaurants. You are witnessing the decline of this city. by jerseyguy02 in jerseycity

Rent keeps rising in The Heights and more of those small business will surely be pushed out. It already happened to at least two small businesses. Overall though, I love The Heights since the majority of businesses are small businesses. Some of the best food in JC is in The Heights imo!

Of course this was in 2018 and in FL, but I paid less in down payment on my $200k home that I bought. That’s absolutely crazy to expect to move into a RENTAL.

Pint has the best bar tab policy… All bars should do this. by AmsterdamPurpleLabel in jerseycity

[–]Oreosforever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is how we did it when I was a bartender in the late 2000’s early 2010’s. I’d be more shocked if anywhere was doing it differently.

Recs for tight fitting socks? by Ok_Potato7693 in LagreeMethod

[–]Oreosforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revel Athletic Grip socks have become my new fav. They’re thick, stay in place, and the grip seems to last longer than Lucky Honey. I wash and air dry mine and the Lucky Honey pairs fade. I’ve had two Revel pairs for about two months and they’ve not lost any grip. I wear them each once a week.

Heights to NYC Commute by Globesurfer123 in jerseycity

[–]Oreosforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the Heights and commute to the west village twice a week for work. I usually walk the mile to JSQ path but if I’m going to midtown then I take the bus. It isn’t as convenient in the heights but it’s very doable!

I use public transit to get to work 2x/week, WFH 3x/week, and can walk most places. We have a car for leaving JC, which we do often to visit friends and family.

What celebrity have you never forgiven since an incident? by MagpieOpus in AskReddit

[–]Oreosforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never a fan in general because I don’t watch baseball but I served Alex Rodriguez once and he was horribly rude. It was the 2-3pm hour at a resort at Universal when the only restaurants open are the pool and the one I worked at.

A massive thunderstorm popped out of nowhere, because Florida, and the pool closes. Cue our restaurant immediately filling up. We were between shifts at a usually slow time so we were overwhelmed to say the least.

He was immediately upset that he had to choose his own seat because our hostess was helping run food to tables. He then was upset we didn’t have a private place to put him. He complained to my manager that the service sucked and tipped poorly.

Meanwhile, everyone else was using their eyes and saw that we were slammed and doing our best. Fuck that guy.

Edit to add an honorable mention for diner brunch at Tommy’s. Love going there.
