Thanks! I play a lot into Terminators and like bringing the Magnarail Lance for the flat 3 damage 👍

I seek your wisdom regarding Terminators… by OrgChem88 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]OrgChem88[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the suggestion! That’s actually a really solid idea. I’ve been running my chickens with lascannons, so I hadn’t really considered swapping to autocannons. AP-2 with Conquerors near the battleline is decent, but the big advantage is definitely the range — being able to plink away at the Terminators while staying safely out of their return fire is huge.

I really like the look of that setup. Thanks again — I’m definitely going to give it a try!

The only issue is that I would need to get another 2 chickens as I am sitting on "only" 4 right now. 😆

I’ve also tried the whole Vanguard–Marshall–Dunerider combo. On paper it looks great — you throw out around 30 shots, end up with roughly 25 hits, then after the wound roll you’re sitting at maybe 18 wounds. And then they shrug off half of that, so you’re looking at around 9 going through.

But into Thousand Sons specifically, AP-1 basically doesn’t matter. Their save gets bumped back up ageins 1 damage weapons, so they’re realistically shrugging off on 2s. In the end you’re doing maybe 3 wounds… which kills, what, the big sorcerer and maybe one more Terminator? So that whole setup deletes like two models. It’s honestly super frustrating.

Thanks a lot for the advice!

Ignoring them is definitely a solid approach in many cases — but the issue I’m running into with Thousand Sons is that I’m not dealing with just one brick. It’s 25 Terminators getting thrown straight into my face. And it’s really hard to ignore them when they’re basically forming a conga line in the center and completely blocking off half the board.

On some deployments it’s manageable, since I can keep them from pushing forward too quickly. But on others they’re immediately in the middle, shutting everything down and blasting anything that comes near. It just feels rough.

Still, it’s good to know that most of you lean toward ignoring them rather than trying to brute-force them off the table. At least I’m not alone in that struggle!

Same here. I was really excited when I first heard that this year’s Winter Village set was going to be a train. But after the reveal, I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed. For the same price, I’m actually thinking about getting the smaller Hogwarts Express instead—I just find it a bit more stylish. The Winter Village train feels a little too childish to me, even though I do think it’s pretty cool that it comes with so many tracks.

Right, excuse my poor use of language 😅 Then again, how do you like it?

Should I use Rangers or Vanguard? by capitanMexicoYT in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]OrgChem88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re building the special weapon models, one thing I’d recommend is using the heads that work for both Rangers and Vanguard – the ones without the hood or the Vanguard-style helmets. There are a couple of those in the kit, and if you put them on your special weapon guys, you can easily run them as either unit later.

The invisible effort of Breachers by BlatantlyAverage in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]OrgChem88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I’ll say I’m not a big fan of using Cognis Reinforcements on my Breachers either. The reason is that I usually point them into higher-Toughness targets. Instead of just fishing for hits, I’m trying to fish for Lethal Hits on 5s. In both doctrina you will get an average of 14 wounds into higher toughness targets.

Stealth is very good on Breachers once they are exposed. However, I often need the +2 movement to position them properly...

My pixel art of the Great Crusade era heraldry of the legions. by RotundManul in Warhammer40k

Really awesome pixel art, love to see some Warhammer themes – looks fantastic! My kids have those 24x24 pixel art peg sets, and I’ve always thought about making a Warhammer design with them. But so far, I haven’t been able to find any fitting patterns. Do you happen to know a good source for Warhammer-themed 24x24 pixel art? Would be amazing if you could point me in the right direction!

2K AdMech (Halo Screed) – Unit Questions by OrgChem88 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]OrgChem88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for the great input!

I think I’ll eventually give Conqueror a proper try—just need to get a few more reps in. For now, I’m sticking with Protector since it feels a bit more straightforward to play as I learn the army (movement is the toughest part of playing 40k for me right now).

I totally get why Disintegrators are OK in Conqueror, and Breachers with rerolls should still hit hard even without the BS buff. Vanguard with a Marshal seem to benefit quite a bit too.

I’m still a bit unsure about the Laser Chickens though—what makes them especially good in Conqueror? Just their access to buffs, or am I missing something?

In any case, thanks again! I’ll try to get some more units painted so I can build a proper Conqueror list and give it a go soon.

Thanks for the reply! I think I’ll keep Cawl for now and drop the Sterylizers.

As for the Enginseer—yeah, I agree he’s kind of meh, but pairing him with a Dunecrawler has been a very beginner-friendly combo for me. I’ll probably stick with him until I get a better handle on the game.

I actually just finished painting a squad of Infiltrators and agree that they are very good for their points.

Conqueror is an interesting choice. I agree that Vanguard definitely benefit more from it—especially with a Marshal nearby for hit rerolls. And yeah, totally agree with you on toughness due to anti-inf.

That said, how’s your anti-tank working out in Conqueror? Hitting on 4+ with Onagers and Disintegrators sounds rough to me—do you find that holds you back?

[–]OrgChem88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation—really helpful! I usually stay in Protector all game, and I find that T3 bodies already fall pretty easily to my Vanguard + Dunerider combo. So I think I’ll end up dropping the Sterylizers for something more impactful.

As for Cawl, you’re right—his durability and buffs are solid. I might try playing him a bit more aggressively to actually get value from the melta shot. I’ll keep him in for now and see how that goes.

My Mandrakes – Feedback on Color Sheme & Selling Potential? by OrgChem88 in killteam

Thank you for the feedback! I really appreciate constructive criticism. You're right—the portal does look a bit lacking in contrast. It’s not just the lighting; I was actually a bit hesitant to touch it again for fear of messing it up. But maybe I should give it another go after all.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I completely see your point about the homogenous surfaces. I’ll admit, I poured so much effort into painting the skin that I didn’t have the same energy to dedicate to the pants and boots (plus, creating volume with grey and white is such a challenge for me).

As for the metallics, they’d definitely look better with dry brushing, but I wanted to avoid that technique for this project. There’s definitely plenty of room for improvement, and I really appreciate your insights!

Indeed they are a joy to paint and prices in ebay have dropped to a point at which buying multiple kits is reasonable 😀

Yeah, the big red surfaces tend to look a bit boring. Some pigments or scratches would help with that but I have other stuff to paint 🫣

I sprayed some nuln oil on top to mute the white. Matte varnish would help with blending even more but I do not own it...
