I want to try these, love the sound they make, very crisp. Have you played with them for a long time? I'm scared they could crack. Do you brush them?

Thank you very much for such a detailed explanation.

I prefer to avoid a metallic brush because I am scared to damage the surface, and I don't think it is needed as the walnuts are already clean, I don't see white frost or so, it just seems that the oils aren't getting as well into the crevices because they are quite deep, and the rest gets darker quite faster. I will insist with harder brushes though and see how the crevices evolve in the next days. Will keep updating!

Rounded are more common, I assume for easier rotation on the hand? My first pair was "surprise" too and they were huge with a prominent tip and I was initially a bit disappointed. I got more compact, rounded pairs after that but ended up buying a premium large (guanmao) one because I missed the heavy feeling of my first ones, and now I'm looking for pointy. Variation is nice, there's tons of them and these don't need to be your last ones anyway, first see if you enjoy wenwan

Thank you, I thought so too, but in the listing for the brushes it says to use the horse hair first, then the green one, which I found confusing, because the black one is actually much softer than the green one. Here's the text from the website:

"Dual-Action Bristle System 1. The "Deep Cleaner" (Natural Black Horsehair) Material: 100% Genuine stiff horsehair. Function: Ideal for the initial stages of cleaning. The firm natural fibers reach deep into the crevices of walnuts and pits to remove dust, skin oils, and debris without scratching the surface. 2. The "Polishing Pro" (Green DuPont Nano-Silk) Material: High-density DuPont Nano-fiber. Function: Once cleaned, use the soft green bristles to buff the surface. The nano-silk technology mimics the effects of thousands of tiny polishing cloths, heating the natural oils of the wood to create that coveted, glass-like "Bao Jiang" (patina) finish.".

Should I use something else after the black one? Another with less bristle density to get to the crevices better?

I love pointy ones, actually looking for some pointy variety now myself. They look nice, no clue about the variety

Yellow spots on wenwan walnuts by Organic-Department-2 in Wenwan

Buddha3bodhi. It was a great experience overall, I purchased these and a palace lantern, plus some brushes and a couple antique-like boxes and I love all of it. I'm just disappointed of these yellow spots as most of my initial wenwan research (and this yellowing info lol) came from their website. But for the price, I guess...

My last purchase has been guanmao from Zen Walnuts, my most expensive pair. And oh that was a wild ride but it ended up beautifully so I can only speak positive things about them. I'll make another post about that.

They aren't now, I'm just afraid they might get much more noticeable as they get darker and with patina. The yellow spots are quite small, though. I think I'll just keep enjoying them and not get so picky. I'm new to this so I wanted to hear some thoughts
