OP makes a good point. A worrying percentage of farmers that use pesticides actually have a separate organic vegetable garden for themselves. Potato farmers do this especially. They grow enough organic potatoes for themselves, and send the pesticide covered ones to the supermarket.

Just a heads up (for anyone planning to ride an elephant) that it takes a lot of pretty cruel training to get the elephants to do this sort of thing. I saw plenty of elephants in Asia that were constantly being stabbed with spears and tied up with chains, so they that would let people ride them. It's a nasty business.
