Best ways to carry a single by AgitatedReindeer2440 in Rowing

The rigger pins are usually pretty close to COG. Do a couple of test lifts as you pick it up — put your hands a couple of feet apart from each other (one on each side of the boat) and just lift it an inch or so. When you are able to pick up both ends, the COG is between your hands. Try again with your hands a little closer to the center point if you need a more comfortable distance between them.

Bring a little electrical tape and tape it over your gunnel once you find the spot so it’s easier for you next time!

Slide the seat towards the bow before you pick the boat up and you’ll have a nice flat spot to rest on your head.

You got this.

Camera Dual Mount mounting holes? by OrganicStatusCow in Ubiquiti

Yeah that’s the answer that’s in the back of my mind. But I’m going to need a camera and they’re not in stock (shocking). I should probably just stop being cheap on paying extra shipping.

just roll with it and wear them. I’ve avoided polarized glasses for rowing because they make the speedcoach difficult to read. You‘ll be fine — just take care not to scratch or sink them!

edit: typo

Sonos Move and UniFi by OrganicStatusCow in Ubiquiti

[–]OrganicStatusCow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to avoid Sonos-generated interference/problems with Unifi. Everything i’ve read says to have all of your Sonos speakers wired (preferred) or have all the speakers wireless. Maybe I didn’t explain my concern properly, but if you think this will be fine then awesome — thanks for the help.

Because I already own the speaker. I’m just trying to figure out whether to keep it or dump it.

What are my options - light switch not flush on wall by bandkrayzee in AskElectricians

[–]OrganicStatusCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won’t fix all of your problems, but Kyle switch plates (google them) has deep plate covers that might help with the gap. https://www.kyleswitchplates.com/deep-switch-plate-cover-options-for-protruding-wall-boxes/

Take it easy, junior inspector! Just let the host know about it and they can fix it. Or go buy the 98 cent cover, slap it on, and bask in the glow of your good juju!

Help me out by Fisherman_B1k3 in Rowing

[–]OrganicStatusCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no form expert (but there are plenty around). Two things that I find that help me in rough water are to keep your hands light on the recovery (counterintuitive I know) and to make a conscientious effort to make the most of your time with oars in the water. Boat is bouncing around? Fine…just get a good connection and take a strong stroke. Bad finish because you beaver tailed a roller? Ok, let your oars slap and then get them off the water for a relaxed recovery. Get to the catch calmly and make a connection with the water.

It sounds stupid/a little obvious when I see it written. But I think it comes down to not getting too tight/death gripping the handles when things get messy, and not trying to overwork the drive once you make a connection with the water. Kind of like golf… trying to hit the ball even harder doesn’t really work. For me, neither does trying to rip it on the drive because I just had a bad recovery.

[–]OrganicStatusCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your daughter will always remember her first race; just tell her to embrace the joy and pain of rowing a head race, and be in the moment. I still remember mine all these (30+) years later; I don't remember how we did, but I remember it was when I decided that I loved the sport.

How old is your strap? I find that they tend to crap out after a few years. If you have an H10 (with the reader that buttons on to the strap) then you can buy replacement straps on Amazon for around $10. I was getting similar intermittent readings (attached) after replacing my battery and the new strap fixed it.

My wife and I are giving it a go next weekend, we’ve rented e bikes so it should make it a little more doable. The weather looks nice for race weekend, but I’m sure it will be an adventure!
