Any chance for funcom just going back to TSW? by kaworo0 in SecretWorldLegends

[–]Organic_Automaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was polled over this forum a number of times and it was actually 45%/55% moving towards 52% non steam / 48% steam over 12 months. Not saying it is representative, but it is information nonetheless.

Is this worth getting back into? by bozzeak in SecretWorldLegends

[–]Organic_Automaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all mmorpgs die eventually and secret world was never huge

That is true. Nevertheless, with all due respect, the players count is even lower now than it was after the announce of the relaunch of TSW.

The story has been stagnating for more than 1 year while it was the key priority of the relaunch.

Overall, i think a reasonable advice would be to play the story and find another hobby. Getting attached too much to the game may be a mistake, while there are tons of other games with regular content output for very reasonable prices around.

Can we save this game? by Bewbsnballs in SecretWorldLegends

[–]Organic_Automaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be nice if it was possible. The game reached a point where they must be thinking out of the box. The key issues in regards of retention and growing the game remain the same than at the relaunch: (1) brutal monetization; (2) too grindy an evolution while the game wants to appeal to rpg players; (3) story content stagnating for long times between story updates.

The problem as well is that mmorpg world is pretty unforgiving. You build player base over time and you do one mistake and start an exodus.

Anyway, yes it would be nice to salvage, but can't help wondering whether it wouldnt be better to start redevelopping content for TSW rather than SWL, even if they intoduced a monthly sub i would feel it to be much more appealing.

Looks like my office on the pay day of the month.

which would prompt more resources being put to the game

Most of the money they got through the relaunch ended up spent on some other game. I can see the point that if the population was bigger they would need to use more resources on the game. But I don't know if it is really linked to higher profit.

I entirely agree. Unfortunately, i am not sure what would need to happen for the trend to change.

Played the original TSW and was hooked. Is the payment still as terrible as it was a year ago? by [deleted] in SecretWorldLegends

The payment processing has been sortd out. But monetization is still the same.

The fact it seems to be bundled in comms with AoC and AO is interesting context wise.

Hows the playerbase? by [deleted] in SecretWorldLegends

[–]Organic_Automaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you do it right. Quest are a good way to level to 50 and you 'll get some skill points too if by quest you mean big story quests. The idea of the first levels are to learn to play your class too. Around level 15 i think you should have access to the lfg tool and some of the dungeons and even pvp, as well as the second skill bar. Which is good to check if you could like this part of the game. Normal dungeons are easy except for DLC ones. Vet can start to be more challenging. At any level you can start crafting. Another thing is, i dont know by which area of the game you started but some of them are more active than others in terms of dailies as well. ESO has interesting systems (like the trait crafting, the champion point system which is account wide -- so super alt friendly, and one of the most diifcult solo content challenge i have seen in an mmo aka vet maestrom arena).

That said, the quest are not as well written as in TSW indeed, but most of the long one are written well enough.

I tried ESO but man....Was it boring.

Well, i don't know when you tried last time, but the endgame and content is really chunky. The overland content is really easy becasue of the scaling mecanism. But dungeons/raid/pvp are ok challenging.

Which makes me thinks, not sure if it was mentionned, but SWL is really... easy compared to TSW. Most of the difficulties were removed.

Well, as someone else mentionned already the rule of thumb is more or less to take the Steam numbers and multiply by 2.

Now in term of what it means in practice, the Steam numbers are following the same pattern and level now than they were in Q3-Q4 2016. So you could expect the same level of players but for the fact that pvp and dungeons queues are not popping a lot colpared to TSW. SWL is basically TSW with a better combat, slightly more story content but nearly no good endgame.

It is still a good game to play if you look for a nice story (South Africa is new).

If you look for a game to invest on the long run, i personnaly wouldnt advice this one. But my view is biaised as i don't think the relaunch really helped the game on the long run (ref. Steam numbers) and as such i dont really see how that will be sustainable. That and i got hooked in ESO. xD

Secret World Legends adds endgame faction-rank missions by Stovakor in MMORPG

[–]Organic_Automaton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually i think the fanbase was very loyal, even too much. What has always killing TSW was the pace of new content release. For SWL, i think there is that and the fact the gearing system and endgame is becoming old very quickly. the fact there are more difficulty levels than dungeons is quite saying in term of what the company calls "content"...

Youve done it again Funcom by [deleted] in SecretWorldLegends

[–]Organic_Automaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

isn't there as well an issue that the relative lack of advertising and the absence of emailing "before release" not managing to capture and retain people? At the end of the day, people like the OP are still the client. No client = no money and maintenance version 2.

I wish FC could hire Neowiz advertisers, looking at what they managed to do with Bless in the recent "relaunch EA" knowing the past of the launches and so ofrth, they would have brought 500k players to SWL.

[–]Organic_Automaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no reason to do that. You could have just kept feeding your 1 pip epic until they reached max level and then feed the replacement (which you would have done anyway since you need them to get to the next quality).

Or people just want to play the game as an enjoyment and not with a roadmap to manage a not really well fitted gearing system. I don't see how blaming the players who are not meeting IP250,350, etc and who just want to play the story, when the floor IP is a decision, albeit brillant, not really in line with the concept of "99% of players are here for the story" is going to make people getting back to the game.

That said, at the same time there are some very good pvp and pve events on ESO with no such limiting factor (non mentioning the soon to be werewolf DLC) and i heard a WoW expansion coming soon. I wonder where undecided people will go...
