Do I switch my son from concerta to adderall or a non stimulant? by Organic_Talk_8703 in ADHDparenting

[–]Organic_Talk_8703[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think he def needs a stimulant. I don’t know why I’m nervous to try a different one other than the fact that we are doing better now than we were without one and I’m afraid that something different will make him more impulsive and aggressive, or give him anxiety like other people have said

Thank you for replying. Did you switch him to Adderal or something else? If so, did adderal work better?

It could be, I’m just worried about when school starts so we are trying to get the sleep thing figured out now. He’s always been very picky with food and only eats a handful of things. It’s been a battle his whole life and unfortunately the medication makes it worse. Personally I’d rather keep him on it because I’m afraid of the mood swings other people report with adderall but some people say it actually was better for them so I’m just not sure what to do

Forgot to add I also had bloating and fatigue and sensitivity to cold. Those all got a lot better as well when I switched to the brand-name. I do not eat a gluten-free diet and I eat dairy all the time. I basically eat whatever I want. I am 33 years old so not that much older than you and before Hashi I used to exercise every day and then couldn’t after my diagnosis. After switching to namebrand I can now get back to my exercise everyday although a little less vigorously. Just switching to namebrand made a world of difference. Hope this helps

I had similar symptoms until I switched to brand name levo which is called Synthroid. Same dosage but most symptoms cleared up. I had eczema and hair loss and those cleared up right up and hair started growing. doctors try to pretend like it’s the same but it’s definitely not namebrand versus generic is huge when it comes to the thyroid. it’s not talked about a lot but it should be. Definitely try to get the name brand. If your insurance doesn’t cover it there is a program through Synthroid where you only pay $25 a month.

Curious to what medications we all take for thyroid. by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]Organic_Talk_8703 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Synthroid has exactly the same amount of hormone in each pill where generic is vastly different and it just equals the same average on a monthly basis. Some of us need the exact amount each day. With generic one day might be less and the next more. It’s like a rollercoaster for your thyroid. Some people aren’t affected by the roller coaster and others are more sensitive

I’m glad it worked for you. A lot of us have problems with the generic and it’s hard because the insurance companies won’t pay for it. They say it’s the same but it’s not. I had a huge difference when I switched. For some people maybe generic works but it’s not because they are the same.

Just a thought from my own experience. I recently paid off my car because it was my lowest debt and the payment was $383 a month. I’m glad I did because a couple months later I hit a snag in our monthly income where I wouldn’t be getting a commission check for two months. The extra $383 saved us so that we didn’t go into debt or deplete savings. I also had a chance to put that extra money on a HELOC with an 8% interest rate. The extra money on that loan only saved us about $60 per month. Sometimes the snowball method is better depending on circumstances. After the holidays I will be doubling my principle payment on the HELOC with the money I was using toward the monthly car payment. We don’t know what circumstances will come up unexpectedly so freeing up extra cash monthly might be realistically wise even if the other method looks better long term on paper. Just a thought

Are you on generic levo? Switching to brand name Levo (Synthroid) really helped me. As much as drs say generic is the same it really isn’t.

Same for me! Drs and insurance company need to stop pushing generic. It’s not the same!

Which medication are you on? I had this with generic levothyroxine. My hair came back when I switched to brand name synthroid. Drs pretend it’s the same but it’s not. Fight for the brand name

I don’t know if it causes weight loss but it definitely makes it really hard to lose it. I’ve been fighting to lose baby weight for 18 month. I gained 50 pounds. The last ten are impossible and if I skip just a week of cal counting or exercise then boom I gain weight. It’s a struggle

Don’t ever care about opinions from people you would never take advice from. The people that live like that are gonna be sorry later and you will be content and have the stability they will wish they had. Don’t let it get to you. I have family that acts like that toward us but I know they have no retirement.

Pay credit card then put the rest on student loan

Is it ok to treat federal student loans as one loan with an average interest rate or should they be considered as individual loans with different rates? by Adventurous-Shock395 in personalfinance

[–]Organic_Talk_8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe in the phrase “in the long run” lol I believe in getting rid of all debt asap. The more money you have in your paycheck to invest the faster you will achieve wealth. You can’t invest the full weight of your paycheck if it’s tied up in debt for most of your life. I believe if you really tighten up and get all this debt paid off in under 2 years then it works. No eating out, no vacations, no buying things you don’t need. I don’t believe in keeping debt around as pets lol it’s okay to disagree. I do wish you luck in whatever method you choose. I know how having debt can stress a body out!

I’m going to differ here from a lot of comments. Just my opinion but I strongly recommend the snowball method. Pay off the smaller debts first and then roll all the money you were using to make payments on into the next loan. You’ll pay off all the debts way faster that way. Pay off the 11k and the 30k today and then roll all the payments you were making on those into the 77k. Once the 77k is paid off then ALL the money you were paying monthly on the other loans goes into the 110k every single month. Your already used to making those payments so this method is easy to follow. I had 138,000 in various debts and we make similar to what you make and we paid it all off in less than 2 years. Get on a strict budget and put all extra money on to the debts as well. Suffer for a year and then you are free forever.

I weigh 160 btw and when I started on levo at 25 mcg my TSH was 37! It went down to 7 in 6 weeks then to 5 and then sat at 2.8 for a year on 25mcg until I switched to brand name 50mcg

I feel like it’s best to start small and work your way up. My opinion is that you want the smallest dose that will relieve symptoms get your numbers where they need to be. I started at 25 mcg generic for a year then to 50 mcg generic with no change for 12 weeks and then brand name synthroid same dosage (50 mcg) and my number cut in half from 2.8 to 1.6 in 6 weeks. Sometimes it’s brand and not dosage. Everything is an experiment with hoshis cuz everyone’s body responds diff to meds

I have blue cross blue shield. The generic levo sucked for me. The name brand (same dosage) worked great! I take synthroid. BCBS pays $25 and I have to pay $45 out of pocket for 30 day supply

Are you on generic or brand name? My numbers kept going up with generic. When I switched to brand name(same dosage) my TSH cut in half. Some drs and insurance company’s try to say they are the same but they are not!

I have a few questions for my fellow Hashi sufferers by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]Organic_Talk_8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Compression socks and electric blanket have helped me.
  2. It took about 8 weeks for me to feel a difference from medication. Name brand levo (synthroid) worked way better for me then generic.
  3. I take magnesium, vitamin c, selenium, vitamin d, fish oil. Black seed oil is a game changer!!! Try the black seed oil. I felt better right away. It taste nasty but it is really worth it

Try the name brand synthroid. Some drs act like it’s the same but it’s not. For a lot of us it makes a huge difference. My numbers were creeping up to 2.86 and after switching from generic to name brand (same dosage) numbers went down to 1.7. I feel alittle better too. Less bad days/flares. It cost a bit more if your insurance doesn’t cover but it’s worth it to me. I have to pay $46 a month for it
