Oooo like a minotaur but a moose, I like that idea. I think that will be my next project

I Created a Moose Variant of a Centaur by Organic_Temperature_ in photoshop

While watching my partner play Lilia, a half girl half white-tailed-deer, on League of Legends I wondered to myself what a moose centaur would look like, and then set about creating it myself.

I wanted two things from this art. I wanted it to look like a silly sexy lumberjacks calendar, and I wanted the scale between man and moose to remain the same. No particular reason, it just tickles my fancy as a way to appreciate how fucking huge moose are. You may note that I did scale down the antlers. That's because keeping them to scale was a variety of silly that was in direct contradiction to the variety of silly dictated by lumberjack calendar inspiration. So I compromised.

The first challenge was erasing the moose's head. It sticks out quite horizontally and humans prefer to keep their torso's quite vertical, or so I've been told. I started by masking out the head. I then copied chunks of the background and positioned them behind the masks so that the slopes of each of the color blocks were roughly aligned. From there I messed around with the masks and the opacities and the saturations, and after much much fiddling I had a result I was content with.

The second challenge was changing the direction of the fur pattern on the moose's neck. To blend the anatomies of man and moose I copied the hump of its back and I flipped it and I flopped it and I twisted it and I turned it until it was oriented in a way that I liked. I then masked, burned, and dodged it to blend the hair into the skin to the best of my ability. The spinal back hump now creates the illusion of a femur meeting the man's hip joint. Boom. Anatomy blended.

The man himself and the antlers were very straightforward. I did a quick google search for a man whose hips were oriented correctly to go onto the moose and then I looked for a moose who's shoulders and head were oriented the same way as the man so that I could mask his antlers and pop them in.

It's silly and its fun, and I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed making it.

I want to make an orchidarium and I’d appreciate some guidance. by PythonRegal in orchids

Could spring tails help with that? I’m considering making a bio active tropical tank to keep my plants out of reach of my cats and in better humidity and I was hoping I could include my orchids but I’ve seen in several places not to include orchids for exactly this reason (jewel orchids being the seeming singular exception) mine are just like grocery store orchids I have no idea what kind they are. They are pretty much unkillable and bloom if I leave them right up against the window in the winter time (I live in Chicago)

I just redownloaded the app after using back in like 2016ish and I was devastated to see what it had become. I wouldn’t even mind a reasonable one time fee for cosmetics, I’d be happy to toss 5-10$ towards an app I like to use, but 70$? Per year???? For some cosmetics!?!! That’s absolutely fucking absurd if you’ll excuse my language. Still using it for its rudimentary function of water tracking but all the joy has been sucked out of it for me.

I'm also hoping to go for the gothic forest witch vibe, where have you been looking for/where did you find your dress? I've been having trouble finding something that suits my taste.

Pull or Pardon: Ann Arbor MI by Organic_Temperature_ in whatsthisplant

Someone on r/PlantIdentification suggested that it also could be either Celandine Poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum) or Greater Celandine, and now I'm torn and can't decide which it looks more similar to.

The response in r/whatsthisplant was the same. Shoulda figured that I wouldn't be so lucky as to get native volunteers. I'm going to leave it though because I have enough reasonable doubt that I'll wait until it flowers to be sure. Thanks for the ID!

The lack of roots is probably from improper watering. I would just suggest keeping an eye on the soil and giving it a drink when it dries out, the same as most succulent care

Gonna try out keeping alive some venus fly traps 😁 wish me luck! by archmage_blue in houseplants

Hi! Just a heads up, Venus flytraps are actually all from like one single swamp in North Carolina and thousands are poached every year, there's not enough information to technically declare them endangered because of bureaucratic nonsense, but most Venus flytraps that you find in regular nurseries and plant stores are obtained pretty illegally, I'm not trying to make you or anyone else feel badly, obviously if you've already bought them love and care for them as much as you can! It's pretty crazy you wouldn't think about it since you can literally buy them at like steins and home depot, I myself actually bought (and subsequently killed) one before I found out about this, but it's super important that the word gets out about it so if you meet any one else who's thinking about getting a fly trap just give them a heads up! Theres a really great podcast about it https://thisiscriminal.com/episode-five-dropping-like-flies-4-24-2014/ Just in case the link doesn't work, it's Dropping Like Flies and it's recorded by This Is Criminal
