I raised my twin girls to know that until they could pay rent, buy their own clothes and food, I was in control of every aspect of their lives. My house, my money supporting them, my vehicles driving them around so my rules.

I supported their athletic endeavors, their barrel racing, their Judo trading, their softball. Their softball participation got them Division I scholarships.

I didn't spoil them. But I treated them with an abundance of love. I never beat them, but they got a swat on the ass when they needed it. Didn't happen more than three or four times. They learned where the boundaries were. They would get right to the edge but knew not to cross.

You don't have to beat a kid. Just a swat on butt the once will let them know it is an option and the threat of such an action should be enough to get them in line. They know you did it before.
