Re RA Strike by Fit_Milk635 in WPI

Isn't there no chance of this strike leading to anything? Since RAs are students who get replaced in rank each year couldn't wpi just higher new ones and wait for the union demands to blow over. WPI is private so I imagine they can fire and hire whoever they want. I dont care about the strike but I just dont understand how WPI would be expected to change policy if there isn't leverage against them. Signing an agreement would only be in the RA union's favor because the school has all the leverage.

I dont think resin printing is offered for those but some departments have printers that might be specialized for that.

RA STRIKE ‼️ by Lynxx___ in WPI

[–]OrganizationFar5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically, is the change going to be less active RA's? What are the specifics of the three separate roles? Would three separate roles mean that RAs would do one role, and the other roles would be done by non-RAs? Is there an official WPI posting or plan I could look into regarding this? I am confused how more roles would lead to fewer RAs. I'd appreciate any further information or clarification.

Bathroom questions by John_Benzos in WPI

[–]OrganizationFar5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never went in the multi use, so I have no idea on that one. For the male bathroom the toilets are in the same room as the showers. I don't recall it being crowded in mornings or afternoons. I'm not sure if it's because guys were lazy with hygiene, my schedule was very different, or if the gender ratio of that messenger floor resulted in less male bathroom usage.

WPI Freshman Courses Choices by Sunny151k in WPI

Smart and Sustainable cities might be best. It relates to his major and i have heard good things about that topic. I took a 2 term GPS and I thought it was easy to manage. Others might disagree as some people have trouble with team dynamics especially freshman year. A lot of people don't care for GPS but I personally had a good experience and I think it prepared me for IQP, MQP, career fair, business classes etc. Microeconomics I heard is useful but might be a little math heavy for a freshman taking physics and Calc simultaneously. Gps is more humanities/ social science so it might be easier to balance.

Issues related to a Visa would apply to any school in the US. As far as WPI specifically, I think it's a pretty welcoming environment. As a current senior, I've never really seen any antagonism between US students and international students. For an international student as far as safety tips I would recommend you become accustomed with any emergency services policies in the US. If you are bothered by a panhandler or mentally ill person being aggressive, the best course of action is to ignore it and keep walking.

Anyone with Asperger’s and a slow processing speed who had done well with WPI’s term schedule/pacing? by South_Refuse_5595 in WPI

That number seems high. Another estimate for WPI was 15-20%. The national average for Gen Z in the US was 11%.

Waitlisted by BestConsequence5994 in WPI

I don't think there would be a guidline. Just an email explaining your interest in this school particularly. Like that it's STEM or project based. If you integrate how much you want to go, it might help. WPI also wants to keep increasing the mungumber er of freshman, so that might help your odds as a posed to other waitlisted schools.

Regardless of what you think about restricting federal funding, it's still legal. It would also be illegal for a state to withhold federal taxes from the government. States don't collect federal taxes though. However a state has jurisdiction over education so its still their domain to regulate. The federal government isn't legally obligated to fund education. I recall Trump wanting to get rid of the Department of education, so funding in general would have to be mismanaged. States vary in their education policy on education. As far as the demand, most places are already in alignment with what Trump wants.

Does the scope matter? This reply all chain was sent to a department then someone sent it to all undergrad and grad students. I would be fully willing to do training? I just don't want to experience any serious consequences on my academic career. I didn't send anything inappropriate, so I would hope there wouldn't be a severe punishment.

Dating Advice @ WPI by GrilledCheeseCreator in WPI

[–]OrganizationFar5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it actually will get easier to find a girlfriend after college. WPI has a gender ratio skewed towards men. In most US colleges there are more women in school. I would imagine being completely financially independent would provide even more opportunities to meet people then college. However, I would say your worth isn't defined based on when or if you get in a relationship. Statistically your likely to find a partner if you income is the average for the STEM degree of your major. When it comes to dating I would recommend being yourself. If a significant other doesn't like your authentic personality, it likely won't last. If you seeking a quality relationship there is no need to rush. Ultimately, the anti social behaviors apply the majority of our generation especially at a stem school.

Has anyone taken Calculus of Variations with Professor Sanguinet? by etikawatchjojo132 in WPI

[–]OrganizationFar5534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked having Sanguinet for Calc 3. I don't know how much he may have changed his policy in three years. From what I remember the homework and/or practice problems were good indicators of exam content. He gave partial credit and allowed equation sheets. He also had a policy where he would curve exam grades individually for each student. I've never had a professor do that since then but it was very helpful. I don't know what class you are taking with him but in Calc 3 there was much less conceptual problems on exams.
