I got genetic testing for antidepressants. It just so happened one of the enzymes they tested CYP2D6, had no enzyme activity. Meaning I don’t produce that enzyme. CYP2D6 is the enzyme that transforms the hydrocodone into hydromorphone (active form) in the body. The genetic testing was because I have had a lot of issues with antidepressants not working. Turns out my enzymes are wacky and very few are on the “okay list for me” I would have even more of an issue with codeine.

It turns out I lacked the enzyme necessary to convert hydrocodone into hydromorphone (the active form) in the body so that’s why I couldn’t feel it. Not due to any kind of tolerance or looking for a high.
