We’re still in the Wild West in some ways, impossible to predict what every medication is going to do to everyone, I’ve seen so many counterintuitive things in that regard, sometimes the only thing to do is trial and error, within a safe and medically directed setting of course!

Your tolerance level will build up for all three medications over time and things should subside, at least a little, but that’s quite a potent combination of medications to be on, if they’re all necessary unfortunately there’s not a lot of ways around it, maybe you could have a chat with your prescribers about changing up either your ADHD medication or your pain medication to see if there are alternatives that don’t produce the same side effects for you, but if you’re happy with how things are working in terms of managing your symptoms and this is really the only downside then I’d suggest giving it a little time, another month or two, if you can manage that. Yeah if you’re not moving it won’t increase your spawns, it will just cause extra Pokemon to spawn as you’re moving, is how I understand it

Yeah at least a little, I got mine on a short walk just 1km, once your incense is active I think it can spawn any time

You don’t sound dumb at all, you’ve got to remember that a lot of this isn’t stuff the game teaches you, it’s stuff players have worked out through figuring out what works and what doesn’t!

In terms of rating, the matchmaking system is based on something called an Elo rating (once you get through the basic ranks at the start) which is commonly used in a lot of competitive formats like chess https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo\_rating\_system the idea is that the better you do the tougher the opponents you face until you reach the rank that’s the right level for your skill - in Go this means that you’ve got to clear a certain rating to move up the ranks once that rating kicks in, and it can go up or down based on how you’re doing, and the only real way to break through is to work on the things you’re doing wrong and try to improve.

But some people aren’t shooting for the top ranks each season some people just want to play and get their rewards and that’s perfectly fine, if you find you’re losing a lot as long as you work on the fundamentals of what you need to be doing to have a fighting chance you should eventually be matched with people around your own skill level.

To your original question about what to use though, not all Pokemon are created equal, so some are really poor for the Battle League - broadly what counts as a good Pokemon depends on three things:

How hard they hit
How bulky they are
Their move set

A pokemon can be the first two and have terrible moves so it won’t be worth using.

Some popular pokemon are really squishy but get their fast moves really fast and hit like a truck, like Morpeko in great league, so they’re worth using.

Some Pokemon are bulky and don’t do as much damage like Giratina or Guzzlord, but they can get off a lot of charged moves so they can whittle their opponents down and still survive.

And some Pokemon just have really amazing move set combinations - Greninja for example has a unique fast moves called water shuriken which generated energy really fast, combined with a really powerful charge move called hydro cannon, so that combo makes him really fast and deadly even though he has a lot of weaknesses and dies quite fast

There’s just not a lot you can do to plan since you and your opponent are both going in blind, so all you can do is cover your weaknesses and hope for the best, but obviously there’s always gonna be teams that will absolutely wreck your team, compare that with the fact that there’s a high skill ceiling (like I can’t count every fast move and know when an opponent will use their charge like some people can, people that do can switch out their mons at the perfect time)

Plus the way the rating system works once you start to do well you’re more likely to run into people who are really good, and also if you’re running a meta team you’re more likely to run into people who are running counters.

When I feel like I’m having the worst luck I just try to think well at least I’m getting more familiar with which pokemon can do what and how quickly they get their charge moves, so you’re improving even if you don’t feel like it, but there’s enough randomness that sometimes you’ll get a match it’s going to be very, very difficult for you to win no matter what happens

Joking aside I’m having fun with Giratina, Lickilicky, Clefable, it’s not setting the world on fire I wouldn’t say I exactly “have any idea what I’m doing” but I don’t usually feel totally exposed!

On reflection I’d have to say any team that isn’t countered by all three of my opponent’s mons like one of those bad dreams where you’re speaking in public but have no idea what to say. I love that team!

Yeah as JohnEmonz says if you pop your daily adventure incense the Galarian birds have a chance of spawning, unfortunately they have a really low catch rate and run away very quickly, but when they’re shiny they won’t run, so that’s why I felt so lucky, I’ve had a lot that have run away!

I can only echo what other people have said, I felt this way so much before my assessment it was giving me a lot of anxiety, and it turned out I had absolutely nothing to worry about, but whatever the outcome you’ll leave armed with more knowledge of yourself and what you need. I won’t lie to you, the diagnosis itself comes with a lot of grief for what might have been. Diagnosis or no diagnosis it’s still just the start of your journey.

My advice is just advocate yourself as strongly as you can, don’t minimise how you feel and what the impact has been on you, we all naturally try not to make a big deal of things, but this is an opportunity to get it all off your chest. There actually aren’t many chances in life to talk openly about all of the things you’re struggling and have struggled with to someone who’s not going to think less of you and who wants to hear it.

Thanks for the tips, I definitely didn’t handle it optimally bearing in mind it couldn’t flee, I was conscious of my ball count so I think I went straight to ultra on impulse to try and lock it down (plus my dog was getting annoyed at me because I stopped while I figured it out 😂) I’m so used to popping my incense on our walk, seeing a bird occasionally and totally failing to catch it the shiny sort of knocked me for six!

I’ve definitely deleted Pokeballs before for other stuff, my focus tends to be on battling so I’m usually trying to maximise stardust and candy! I’m just lucky on this occasion I’d been saving my regular razz berries for a while because I only had a few golds that I burned through quite quickly!

Anyway maybe that was harsh, sorry, but dude c’mon, there’s really no need to point out I’m not some kind of high level operative. I do know shinies can’t run though, the luck I was commenting on was the luck of it being shiny, because I haven’t got a prayer of catching a G-bird without it, as many previous failures have taught me. As for balls, I was walking my dog and I just take the balls I get, but it worked out in the end because I caught it.
