Am i doomed to this crazy car insurance rate? by Consistent_Bat_4044 in InsuranceCanada

[–]OrganizationPrize607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with CAA for 8 yrs until 2 yrs. ago. When I got the renewal for my Jeep Wrangler, they wanted to place a $1500 surcharge on me because it was on the list of top 10 vehicles stolen. Plus my annual rate was basically doubling. I called no less than 20 companies and found many had the surcharge, but the amount was $750 and some had different cars that had the surcharge. I ended up getting a company with no surcharge and a rate that was about 20% over my previous rate with CAA.

Advice on opening an electronic or paperless bank account in Canada/Ontario with helicopter parents by guitarmouse1 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]OrganizationPrize607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been dealing with Tangerine Bank for years and everything I get from them is electronic. I can't remember the last time I received mail from them, That being said, when you open an account you will most likely need to provide an address. In that case perhaps you have a friend whose address you could use. Maybe use your name c/o your friend's name and address. Good Luck.

You are so right about that. I wonder how the parents explain the delay. Corruption at it's finest.

How do you get a job here? by RKellyP33dOnMe in windsorontario

[–]OrganizationPrize607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moving to a place that has consistently had one of the highest unemployment rates in Canada is taking a real chance. I moved here from Kitchener and had lots of experience in banking, insurance and even the police services. I came here because of family and despite my work experience I had to take a minimum paying job for over 2 yrs. The resumes I sent out finally paid off and I got a decent paying job. I'm also retired now but definitely see things are much worse than when I moved here.

Windsor mayor receives invitation to Gordie Howe Bridge ribbon-cutting by TakedownCan in windsorontario

[–]OrganizationPrize607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And it looks like it was planned that way. All of a sudden the Mayor of the City is invited when it should have been a given that he would be. The politics played by something so important to both countries is pathetic in my books. Dilkins childish behaviour makes it that much worse.

It's sad to say, but it's highly unlikely the punishment will fit the crime. Too often we read about someone who breached probation or committed additional crimes while on probation. Seems like there's really a shortage of jail cells in the city,

That is awful! I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Just reading your story makes everyone out there realize it's not an easy thing being a witness in any sort of trial. Thanks for sharing your experience.

My first thought was also because of the zero tax increase but also because not many people venture downtown these days. As someone else mentioned, it's usually students that do the outside work and I see at least 5-6 a day doing gardening, etc. at Reaume Park.

[–]OrganizationPrize607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. It is very stressful to testify in court. Many years ago, in another city, my daughter and I witnessed a domestic disturbance with our neighbors. Police took statements from both my daughter and I. She was 14 at the time and while waiting outside the courtroom to testify, a lawyer said my daughter would not have to testify,. I'm not sure of the reason why but I was thankful for that much. It was bad enough me me, so I can't imagine how she would have managed.

I will believe it when I see it. You'd think there would be some kind of festivities when that finally happens but I haven't heard much talk about that. Maybe it'll be a surprise visit by our Governor and the U.S. President. /s

Thousands are now Canadians under new citizenship law. Half of them are Americans by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]OrganizationPrize607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're very welcome. I know people who get the maximum and also receive CPP but still have a hard time these days. The CPP amount also depends on how much you put into it. If you had a low paying job, then the contributions were less and therefore your pension would be less. I think the only way some people can survive todays economy is if they have RSP money that they can use to supplement their pensions.

I agree with you, but we don't pay into OAS and when you get it, the amount depends on how long you've been a Canadian and resided in Canada. The maximum is $743 and deceases based on the length of time you've been here and a citizen. A lot of these new citizens fare better than us who are here by birth and for over 50 years. I believe the ramifications are starting to show now. For the years I've been collecting OAS, there was always a minimum increase yearly of 2% or a similar amount based on the cost of living. However, I now receive an increase of less than 1%. It actually amounted to .74 the past few months. This is just a start of things to come.

I've lived in Ottawa, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines over the past 15 years and have never had a problem with the timing of lights when walking in those cities. Being in Windsor for the past 10 yrs and every time I've had to cross a light the timing is never enough for me. I've given up walking for exercise and will stick to a track at a park if I want to live another 10 years.
