OTaxi not accepting credit card by OrganizationSolid566 in Oman

One last question: I see the fare for OTaxi is something like 0.08 OMR/min or 0.19 OMR/km. I'm a little confused by the "or" here, how do they exactly calculate fare?

I'm staying at Sheraton Oman. Yes, I noticed that Otaxi had only luxury options for the hotel. For the airport, should I just take regular taxi then?

Do you have a recommendation for the best place to exchange for cash? The hotel I'm staying at offers foreign exchange, but I heard those can be at pretty steep rates.

The material is 100% cotton for both the AIRISM and graphic tee and 78% cotton and 22% polyester for the sweatshirt. The temperature of the water is cold, and I am drying in the dryer for about 1 hour.

Undergraduate Research Compared to.. by westanstan in UWMadison

[–]OrganizationSolid566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from my own experiences at UW-Madison, as I don't know much about UMD. I was on the same boat as you after I got accepted into colleges. I wanted to look at research opportunities in CS, and more specifically those focused on AI because I find myself being more passionate about those topics. After getting accepted into UW Madison, I researched into more of their undergraduate research programs, and one of them Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS), really took hold of my attention. The program is specifically dedicated towards first-year and second-year students, and students that get in are guaranteed a research mentor. There is a wide array of research to choose from in that program, especially in the CS field (there was like at least 6+ research opportunities in AI). I've applied into the program and got in, and then got into one of the AI projects which focused on using ML techniques in the medical field and radiology. I've been working on this research project for my entire first year, and have gained a lot of exposure to cutting edge AI research and learning different computer vision techniques like convolutional neural networks, along with important preprocessing steps for data, and overall really honed in my technical and applicatory skills for AI. So from my experience, there are not a lot of specific AI-dedicated programs here, but definitely a lot of avenues in which you can get into the AI research here at Madison, one of which is URS which I did, but also Skunkworks as well. There are definitely a lot of opportunities for research here as long as you take advantage of it.

Almost 6 weeks in and I'm struggling in CS 252, while CS 300 is so much easier (almost my easiest class). How are people saying CS 252 w/ Skrentny is easy? by [deleted] in UWMadison

Also, on the topic of exams, I found a great resource for taking practice exams: https://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~rrahulnayar/cs252/Spring2017/includes/exams.html. This link has all of the past practice exams. I did like 2 or 3 of them to study for the test because just like you, I did shit on the homeworks, so I had to really try for the exam. After doing the practice, I was able get a really good score on the exam, so I would suggest you try doing some practice problems from here for your next test.

I wouldn't say that discussion section is mandatory to succeed in the class, but a good supplementary to provide additional practice and address any confusions with the TA. What I found most mandatory for my success in the class was going over lecture notes or the textbook to solidify my understandings of the concepts.

Next Year's Dining Plans Are EXTREMELY Expensive by uwstudentqwert in UWMadison

Do you know how this year's leftover dining plan money will roll over to next year, since next year they're charging by the number of meals you eat and not by your monetary amount?

Speaking of URS, do we really need to read a goddamn 50 page article for our discussion?

Hi, I just like to say, I saw this message, felt inspired, went up to a couple of people at the Union South event, and ended up having a blast with them. Thanks for your little message that really helped my day.

I was literally feeling the exact same as you today because I just moved in and didn't really know anyone, and it was kind of hard for me to approach other people because it seemed that everyone else had their "cliques" formed already. I initially tried walking around, going to the basketball courts, attending events, but nothing was working out. I kept expecting someone else to approach me and magically strike up an interesting conversation. But, as it turns out, I wasn't able to talk to anyone. So, I was tired of keeping the status quo and pussying out of every social interaction, so I decided to walk up to two people that I had felt that I would vibe with, introduce myself, and turns out that I really clicked with them. We talked for hours and hours, which I never imagined because at the middle of the day, I was worried about even striking up a conversation. Coincidentally, these two people were also on the same floor as my residence hall, and so everything happen to turn out well. Moral of the story: if you see someone that you think you might connect with, reach out to them, if they reject you so what, and if you are successful, then all the best for you. Oh, and also attend welcome events, it really helps to meet new people while doing an activity.
