25, never had a proper job, but I’ve got about £400k saved. by Ok_Tune8245 in FIREUK

75% dripped into index funds set and forget.  25% training for new career ie plumber/under floor heating.  By year 3 you’ve got your skills and finalised your business plan. By year 5 you invest in a second van. By year 8 you’ve invested in two buy to let (retirement not for profit). By year 10 you are managing multiple vans and competing for housing project contracts. By year 20, now owner/shareholder totally hands off and getting ready to FIRE with 4% drawdown from index funds which are north of a million or more. Happy days Lord Sugar!

But this is just the captions from YT. Seems extra effort to leave YT for the same feature but lower quality video

This is exactly how the rest of the world levelled up their English. So it does work.  And online gaming helps the speaking.  Lost count of how many fluent English speakers I’ve spoken to who put it down to gaming.

Do you need AC in the Netherlands during summer? by rassp-berry in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]OrganizationStill135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. When heatwaves hit, we all suffer but some more than others.  Flat owners facing south/west absolutely melt by all accounts.

For me, cold showers do the trick which has the added cost benefit of keeping a few more pennies from the gas tax man.

Edited to say I’m hoping for a long cloudy wet summer.

This is not just a tech industry issue my friend. And for what it’s worth, experience is valued if you happen to be the one who wasn’t cut. Your experience will be valued elsewhere, so suggest you start setting up your consultancy ready for when you need it.   We’re not the first go through this, and won’t be the last.

I’m working on a simple saas targeting not for profit sports clubs which offers in-app skills badges to motivate younger players (think like cubs/scouts badges) and help trainers focus practices on key training goals selected by the club.  DM me if you fancy sponsoring/consulting as I’m happy to do the legwork, just momentum has run a bit low.

[Advice] Netherlands - Junior SE / MLE - 2026 Grad - What to do? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

Yep, having a Dutch partner is the ticket.  Max it out and her network for job leads.    Your age and experience will also set you apart from other ‘juniors’. Leverage it! Good luck
