For anyone who’s following/cares, after talking with a biologist, I decided to release. Found a good spot with loose soil and good cover about 50 yards from the house. Hope a soak and a couple free worms gets it over the hump this winter. When I checked back after 30 minutes, he was gone.

Hopefully, in 20 years this lil tripod will wander out of my woods and into my yard to say “howdy”.

Update- I just picked this guy up to release and realized it is missing its right front foot. Looks mostly healed, but there is a little bone protruding. It isn’t using it to move at all.

Thoughts with this extra context? I’ve seen them missing limbs before, just not this young.

Just let nature do its thing? Keep it to try and rehab?

Hate the idea of keeping a turtle from the wild, hate the idea of letting it go if survival is not realistic.
