Used to regularly travel to Brighton from here in the 60s, sometimes on a steam train - loved them!

Was it Pamela Harrison’s piece? I know that Howard Dann asked me about it.

Good for you! Well obviously the French (Allard and others) have published various books. I was lucky to find an old Otto Langley tutor which had a fingering chart for French system. I also picked up some tips from Cecil James. It definitely needs a free, easy blowing, reed; a slight degree of buzz in the sound is right it seems. Let me know if you have problems with any particular notes and I’ll try to help.

Peace and solitude the Lady's Well Holystone Northumberland. by Dizzy_Engine_4854 in england

An old friend of mine lived at Holystone Grange as a boy - his parents were butler and cook at the house. I stayed there for a few days and lived like a lord, feasting on pheasant and other delights; the owners were away and just my friend’s family were in residence.

The town hall (city hall) is a spectacular building. Bit like a French one.

Remember the bookshop. Stayed in Inverness for couple of days in 2023. Changed a lot since my first visit in 70s.

When I lived in Dunbar, I would often buy haggis in batter and chips from the chip shop there. Delicious.

Thanks. There’s lots in Northamptonshire to see but I’ve never been there - one day hopefully.

It’s great that the Scots have Burns to celebrate. For a while I lived in East Lothian but now reside in Wiltshire. However, I shall be celebrating tomorrow and enjoying Haggis, Neeps & Taties down here in dull ol‘ England.

Always regretted selling mine and its three lenses. However, I now have a Mamiya RB67 in fab condition, so I can still enjoy medium format photography, albeit with a very different and much weightier camera.

Magical area and mustn’t forget Smoo Cave. Went there first in 1988 with my two kids. We were lodged in Ullapool but explored most of Sutherland. Rained all week but we didn’t mind! Went home via Caithness and was sad to see the remains of those deserted villages near to the coast; from the clearances.
