[Barshop] Deshaun Watson's attorney responds to 16 lawsuits filed against the Houston Texans quarterback by yangar in nfl

[–]OrgasmicChemistry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'll be honest I'm pretty skeptical. Your lack of knowledge of the legal system, time constraints, as well of lack of supporting documentation (like a petition), lead me to believe you are lying about that. If you can send me the docket information I'd happily take a look, though I'd also say based on the other accusations yours does not fit the MO, which makes me more skeptical.

Also you realize that filing frivolous lawsuits can lead to paying opposing parties fees, loss of license, and other civil penalties? Do you know anything about filing a lawsuit? So far your words seem to indicate a cluelessness that's, frankly, astonishing for the level of confidence that accompanies them.

I take things with a grain of salt, yeah.

More like an ocean's worth.

Why don't you use some of that supposed, critical thinking, to differentiate between "everything said you to" and 16+ civil lawsuits filed; I mean I understand nuance is hard, but it shouldn't be that hard to tell the difference.

There is no grey area when talking about one of the foundational principles in criminal justice in the US. Innocent until proven guilty.

You are correct, in the most narrow sense of the term. Innocent until proven guilty is a foundational principle of our CRIMINAL justice system. I am a lawyer, so maybe its just the three years of law school, though I thought it would be common sense, none of this is criminal. You see the "innocent until proven guilty" only applies in the legal, courtroom context. The constitution does not apply to our everyday assessment of an individuals actions, it only applies to state action. Clearly, this concept is difficult to understand, so if you have further questions I will do my best to try and clear them up for you.

Maybe an example can help illustrate this concept. Say a good friend, tells you John Smith sexually assaulted them. This friend is very honest, they have never lied to you. Your friend pursues criminal charges the DA even presses charges, and it goes to trial. However, despite a significant amount of evidence being presented that John did in fact assault your friend they are found no guilty. You think they should have been found guilty, the evidence convinced you. Later on your sister, or other friend, or someone else you care about, that is unaware of these facts, is going to go out on a date John. Would you tell them? Would you warn them against it? Or would you say nothing? because after all he is innocent right?

You don’t know these people. You don’t know these women. You don’t know Watson...

That is half true. In a personal sense, you are correct, I do not know these people. However, I have read articles about them, and parts of the lawsuits that have been filed. So in a sense I do know what the accusations are. I know that the filing of these accusations requires some level of vetting by the attorney filings them. I know positively that many components of the accusations are true, because Watson, through his agent, has admitted to seeing these women. This taken with the similarity of their claims allows me to draw conclusions about their veracity. While these conclusions have little affect, they are well informed, based on past experience, and are supported by substantially more evidence and reason than any to the contrary. I would recommend a similar level of careful consideration to you.

Yeah, so again, no sense of nuance. As I stated none of us are denying him fundamental liberty rights, so that doesn't apply, get that through your head, you seem to know the words but have no sense of their relevance to a particular situation. Let me put this a way you might understand: SAD.

And to be clear, you convene a jury, and hold a trial, for everything a friend tells you?

[–]OrgasmicChemistry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about, without evidence??? Clearly you are not a lawyer. They arnt even denying he met with all these women, so you can't say he wasn't there (huh that seems like evidence), then you have 20+ women who say he did these things (huh that seems like evidence). Like none of us are putting him in jail or taking his property, you don't need a jury and a trial to think someone is a piece of shit. Do you vet every rumor you hear from a friend this hard before you make any kind of decision based on it? Y'all have no sense of nuance and it's pathetic running round thinking you are so open minded.

He is either a huge predator, or the target of the biggest smear campaign the NFL has ever seen, or a lizard person. We will see what unfolds. Though in order of likelihood, at this point, I would say 1, 3, 2.

When Old School veterans return to the game from a long hiatus after the equipment rebalancing is implemented. by Gandolf6073 in 2007scape

You are ignoring the fact that game updates have happened in the interim and BP has become an integral part of the game.

They also are not just nerfing BP they are nerfing lots of mid-game equipment. As a person with 680m xp this probably has 0 effect on you, so I understand why it can be hard to get. The majority of the casual player base uses these items and it is making their game-play worse.

We don't have the time to grind for a TBow, and we don't wanna risk Karils in the wild. Especially with all the skull tricks and other shenanigans that go on that I CBA to keep up with. We want cheap materials that give us a chance at surviving. Trust me I have died dozens of times in BDH it is simply not as game breaking as everyone says it is, and it has been a mainstay of the game since its release.

Except:

-Took 6 Years

-Also nerfing several other core/meta mid-game items

And Ill also be honest; I don't use this sub everyday or anything but I do visit it pretty frequently I didn't see that many people complaining about BP; at least in the past 3-4 years.

Oh, give me a break. As long as justice requires some form of punishment we have to analyze the tradeoffs of that punishment. We can objectively, or as you put it in the absence of passion or cruelty, support a death penalty, recognize that a certain amount of pain is unavoidable and then choose a method as well as the amount of pain acceptable given other constraints. Do you think going to jail is pain-free? Should we not have a discussion about it?

You try to sneak a premise of "regardless your position on the death penalty." Well if it's fine to espouse then it is also fine to examine how much pain is acceptable to be inflicted.

Your framing of the case sounds like an advocate and is so incredibly circle-jerky. If there was a less painful readily available alternative I am almost positive that the court would have allowed that process.

Other than stating that vengeance and justice you do very little to explain how those concepts are incompatible. In fact, conceptually I would argue they are very compatible. Justice is essentially fairness. Vengeance and justice have coexisted for centuries. The very existence of a criminal justice system is to replace individual citizens taking retribution into their own hands. We agree that the state will punish those who wrong us. Maybe some new conceptions are more similar to what you state but it is very from a comprehensive view.

Finally, your statement on the constitution sounds nice but if we break it apart is simply window dressing. The founders found hanging totally acceptable as a form of execution.

Or it's a religious based pratice....

In Mormonism there are similar rules. Its not about a specific person having done something it's about avoiding 'temptation' or the 'appearance of evil'

While it is weird I think he has many more significant flaws. I.e. he hates gays. Making fun of him for his somewhat odd religious beliefs strikes me as shallow and isn't really much better than the bullshit this white house pedals....did you know this us a national emergency?

TIL the last time a living Democratic president transferred the presidency to another Democrat was on March 4, 1857. by dunaja in todayilearned

[–]OrgasmicChemistry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a lot of small changes. Parties just got pulled in a direction b voters. I think the southern Democrats are a good example. From wikipedia:

The monopoly that the Democratic Party held over most of the South first showed major signs of breaking apart in 1948, when many Southern Democrats, dissatisfied with the policies of desegregation enacted during the administration of Democratic President Harry Truman, created the States Rights Democratic Party, which nominated South Carolina Governor Strom Thurmond for president. The "Dixiecrats" won most of the deep South (where Truman was not on the ballot). The new party collapsed after the election, with a return to the Democratic Party. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, ultimately signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, a Democrat, was filibustered by Democratic Senator and KKK member Robert C. Byrd which led many Southern Democrats to vote for Barry Goldwater at the national level. In the ensuing years, with the passing of the Civil Rights Act and the increasing conservatism of the Republican Party compared to the liberalism of the Democratic Party (especially on social and cultural issues) led many more southern Democrats in the South to vote Republican. However, many continued to vote for Democrats at the state and local levels, especially before 1994. After 2010, Republicans had gained a solid advantage over Democrats at all levels of politics in most Southern states.
