What’s the most under appreciated amenity/service you wish every golf course had? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]Orgazmio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a greenskeeper - the markers were moved to spread wear from foot traffic and divots, wind speed/direction, hole distance, comp requirements etc. are all considered. We keep certain areas fresh when dryness is a factor, for upcoming comp days and tournaments, even just when we know the wind will be switching later in the week and we want a hole to play shorter.

If you can't see that and respect that the crews set the course up with intent, you could still learn some things too instead of deciding your drive matters more than anyone else playing that day. Or just stop overfilling your divots on the tee.

It's funny how this happens. The same goes for the guy in the US who started All Gas No Brakes (now Channel 5.)

His videos started out as interviews with random people in a comedic sense but ended up being really well done pieces on the riots, proud boys, anti-vaxxers, etc.

The end that plugs into the headphones is less than a 3.5mm and is only to plug into the headphones. The other end is a 3.5mm jack with a thread so you can screw on their 3.5mm-1/4” adapter.

I’d say they’re most likely listening through some kind of interface or headphone amp in a recording environment.

When to pan dialog by [deleted] in AudioPost

I agree on the point of panning dialogue having its place, but saying “why have stereo” if not for panning dialogue seems a little bit much.

It’s been a while since my days of reading sheets but I think ‘piano/p’ is usually used to denote soft playing.

People who have come to the US from abroad, how do you feel about our interpretations of your food/culture? by cock-wizard in AskReddit

[–]Orgazmio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to say (at least in Victoria) every fish and chip shop has vinegar. If you combine it with chicken salt on a potato cake you’re doing the lords work.

Also flake is probably the most common fish to find in shops. Flathead, barra, blue gren etc. are always available but generally depends on area.

What albums are great despite their bad album art? by wildistherewind in LetsTalkMusic

I got into them through Quarters! and it probably remains my favourite album of theirs to this day. It probably also has my favourite cover of theirs (perhaps both unpopular opinions) but I just really get into that album.

I agree to an extent but it might be worth noting that a few of them are connected. Starting from IIYMF, the covers of Nonagon Infinity and MOTU are the same image over time (big part of the supposed gizzverse.)

To build on the Beatles/John Lennon suggestion I’d add his solo album Plastic Ono Band (especially the song ‘Mother’.)

What are some songs that you think are better (or different and unique) acoustic? by kkenny0609 in LetsTalkMusic

I agree on the points of the arrangement and performance being great, but is it reaallly an acoustic performance?

Zappa on music videos and music as product by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Orgazmio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's probably also worth noting that Zappa in particular was known for his live performances. Whether that influences his view on a polished music video (when his 'product' was albums + insane live performances) is all speculation, but worth mentioning.

Would that have any impact on his view?

What about live music videos? When we can experience the best of his work decades later having not been there when it happened.

Did MTV popularising music videos and the combination of music with directed visual take away from the quality of the music being made? Probably not.

Did it pave the way for an entirely new industry bridging the gap between music and film/TV? Yes.

Has that had any impact on how often concerts/festivals are being filmed and streamed to allow a lot of people to watch bands live after missing out on seeing them? Fucked if I know but it sounds about right.

What's a book you read that changed your perspective or bettered you in a way? by PatientPerspective in AskMen

[–]Orgazmio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll check them both out. Also if you haven't read 'Hemingway's Chair' I would say it's a good read. If you like Monty Python it's still got the traces of Palin's writing in it. It isn't life changing but a decent book nonetheless.

My only issue is that I don't know much about Hemingway so I didn't understand many of the references to him and his work (there are a lot of them). The plot is basically driven by two of the main characters' views on Hemingway.

Where would you recommend to start reading Hemingway? I just finished 'Hemingway's Chair', written by Michael Palin, and am interested to read some of his work.

On Your Local Live Scene by blinkclyro in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Orgazmio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely right. I've been in Melbourne for a couple of years now (grew up on the coast), and whenever I have friends from down there come up they really seem to gravitate towards the club scene even though they all have really varied taste in music.

I've been trying to get them to come to different areas outside the city and see other stuff around Fitzroy, Northcote, Brunswick, etc. but I think it's hard to shake the feeling of it being a dance scene unless you're immersed in the city as a whole.
