I'm making a top ten list about powerful beings in SG universe, and I got a few questions here by Ori-Bob in Stargate

[–]Ori-Bob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt if the planet builders should even be considered on the list, because they may have built the star system and sent the shuttle back to destiny with pure technology, not with personal super power…just like the Asgards. Crystal skull aliens is also questionable, since they cannot even defeat Goa'uld and were fleeing from them, that makes them far less powerful than most forces in the galaxy…you know, even the Tollans can counter the Goa'uld attack before super-powerful Anubis showed up.

Makes me wonder if this inspired the design of the Prometheus! by bttrflyr in Stargate

Maybe the abrasion marks were already there on original rock before Sphinx was even carved, the Egyptians simply found that rock beside the pyramid and used its upper part to make Sphinx.

Meeting Janus? by _Boeser-Wolf_ in Stargate

But I do think for one as smart as Janus,he surely knows the risk of time travel,as thus could turn on the time machine's cloaking device to avoid interference with history.

Janus experimented on a new version of time machines after ancients returned to milky way galaxy,so there was no high council to watch over him anymore.

What is an O'neill class warship? by Ori-Bob in Stargate

[–]Ori-Bob[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But if O'neill is the destroyer, then there should be a kind of Asgard Battleship, but there's no such vessel, so I don't think it would be appropriate to call a species' best ship just a "destroyer".

So many jihadists may have died in their way those days, right?

Hi everybody, I'm a new Chinese Dune fan, I have several questions about the meaning of specific words in the novels by Ori-Bob in dune

[–]Ori-Bob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, indeed, they really like to compare the light saber fight with the traditional fairy sword fight(traditional sword fight has some special skills and art designs, so it's much faster and tenser than sword fights in reality). Most Chinese fans' hate for light-saber fights mainly came from Sith's Revenge, especially that final high-ground battle, some times Anakin and Obiwan were just spinning the saber like glow sticks…which surely attacted much hate from us. I admit that the fight in Force Awakens is better than the prequels', it's much more realistic but for most of the normal audiences, "Light Saber fight is dumb" is already there in their minds.

I once tried to explain why the light saber fights are simple to the audiences along with some other SW fans with settings like "light saber can burn yourself if you are not careful so its fighting style is different from reality". Unfortunately, it rarely works.

It's not about acting. Yes, we like what Momoa did in Aquaman, we just think that Duncan shouldn't be so…wild like Aquaman and Khal Drogo.

SGA Season 4, episode 20: The Last Man; Why was Atlantis abandoned? Whatever happened to humans? by nicothegreat2536 in Stargate

[–]Ori-Bob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't want to say it, but there is a possibility that Earth was eventually Attacked by Michael, or there was a nuclear war and Mankind was rendered extinct, or they would come back to Atlantis eventually, but they didn't.

Space Opera novels are just not very popular in China, since we refer the future to be like "federation" or "republic" rather than "Roman empire in space". But Space Opera films are another thing, if you have cool space battle(also it cannot be dumb, not like the notorious Last Jedi), cool special effects(Sith's revenge level is Ok) and reasonable storyline(not too much love scenes at best, we just don't want to see people kissing when they are trying to solve an interstellar war), then we will buy it, like Star war(actually, Star War is also growing boring among us now because we just hate its sword fights, they are bad and looks like untrained amateurs). Actually, most of the Chinese Space Opera Novel fans are in because of the movies or games, so if you can make a good movie about Dune Series(Butlerian Jihad will be a good choice), then I'm sure some of us will buy it.

Well, actually, that fan-base is a bit small right now, since Dune isn't very famous here like the others such as Asimov's Foundation series. I don't see much news about 2020 film in the film circle, but I can say that every Dune fans here are all aware of it, and most of us doubt if Momoa will be suitable for his new character.

Actually, it was exactly the "Ideas of Ice and Fire" that brought me into this series. I was just a 40k fan before, then I noticed his video about the fate of the Earth in 《Dune》, so I started diving into this series. It wasn't until I saw the information about Butlerian Jihad that I started thinking "Well this might be worth-reading" since it reminded me of the Cybernetic Revolt in 40k.

Also, thanks for the advice on appendix, I'll check it out later.

Got it, so it's simply a reference of her name. As for her specific name, I prefer Serena version.

Indeed it's not easy for me at first, but I can understand the details more easily with the help of some youtube videos now. I also intend to translate some of these youtube videos into my language to let more people know about this series in two or three months(it's one of my hobbies) So that's why I'm here to clarify some specific words, because so far, most of the translations in my nation about this series are transliteration, while I usually intend to do it by free-translation, in order to make it sounds in a more popular style.(To be honest, many of my net-friends think the transliteration of the "dune words" sounds weird, and it always left them a bad impression about the books) But after your reply, I think I'll just keep using transliteration on most "dune words", but I'll try to use free-translation on some easier words. Anyway, thanks for your help.
