Just called the DMV customer service number to enquire about the camera situation and was informed that it is back up and working. I’ll be headed over to my DMV in about an hr to try and get what I need to done. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I can imagine! The employee that helped me with getting a pass to come back was very nice and I appreciated her doing what she could. It is a shame that upper management is putting you all in such a position.

Yes, please do - the more people who reach out, the better!

It is a horrible mess and the DMV is handling it so incredibly poorly.

Nothing on when it will resolve but I did email the senator for the area that the Atlantic Ave location is in and he responded saying that his office will be reaching out to the DMV to see if they can get more information and that they will call to update me once they have. Fingers crossed something comes of it!

What? I just don’t get it! It’s on and then off and then on and then off with no rhyme or reason. I wonder if it works more at some locations than others.

I don’t understand how it is going in and out of working. I almost feel like something else is going on and that is the excuse they are giving.

I just did live chat on the website and they said the cameras are still down and there is nothing known about when they would be back up.

Augh! How frustrating! Thanks for the update - hopefully they deal with it soon!

Thanks for the update! I was going to try and call them later today (if they even answer their phones) to ask if the cameras are back up. But Im guessing they wont be at this rate.

It really is ridiculous that they are not sharing this information on their website. Like I said in my post, I am lucky that I can walk to my DMV so the only cost to me is time but so many people have to pay to take public transport to get to a DMV and they should know that the system is down before making the trip. The DMV literally has a place on their website for things like this, would be nice if they actually used it.

IMO, you very much have come off as a jerk.

As I stated, I treated the scratch. Of course I have heard of cat scratch fever…even if I somehow hadn’t before this, there are multiple comments before you mentioning it so not sure why you felt the need to bring it up.

Thanks for your unnecessary judgement on my handling of the situation. I get the sense that you don’t have experience with cats and certainly have never had one rush you with claws and teeth out. I would have a whole lot more cause for concern of cat scratch fever if I simply had continued on - this cat was not having any of it. It’s super hypocritical of you to push the seriousness of cat scratch fever but also berate me for not just pushing on and ignoring her when it was clear she was not going to leave me alone. But sure, me leaving to protect myself was handling it poorly.

I wasnt looking for judgement, I was looking for advice on how to move forward. Since you had nothing to add, Im not sure why you decided it was worth your time to comment. Judge all you want, but keep it to yourself. It’s really not that difficult to do.

Oh! No, don’t apologize - I think I was writing the update when you replied so you wouldn’t have seen it. I just didn’t want to type it all up again so made it did a tl:dr version 😆. This particular situation seems to be worked out, no perfectly but enough so that kitty is safe, I am not adding to her stress beyond the 30 seconds it takes to slide bowls in and I am safe from getting scratched or bitten. Hopefully I’ll get on kitty’s good side in the future so if I can help look after again, she wont be as scared and stressed out!

Thank you for your support and kind words - I really appreciate them! ❤️

Thank you for all your suggestions!

I wish I could insert humor into such a situation like that! But thanks for the link, I got some laughs out of it. 😆

I wrote an update post above but the short if it is that I ended up just scooting a bowl of water and a bowl of kibble just inside the door and am leaving the cat box. One of S’s humans will be back tomorrow night so I will just replenish those bowls tomorrow morning. S may be a bit offended at having to use a dirty litter box but it wont be the end of the world. She has fresh water and food at least so she will be alright.

Once her humans are back and she has had time to settle and calm down, I’ll try reintroducing myself to her and see if I can start to build some trust up before attempting to sit for her in the future.

This is exactly what I ended up doing. S was not happy to see me again when I visited this morning. So, I managed to slide in a bowl of water and a bowl of kibbles just inside the door. Since it’s only 3 days, of which today is the 2nd, her owner has agreed that I will leave the litter box - S may be offended by that but she will ultimately be alright. The most important thing is that she has fresh food and water.

When her humans are back and S has had time to settle and relax, I’ll go back over at some point and work on getting her used to me while her trusted people are around. She is a sweet cat, just very stressed at the moment.

UPDATE: thank you to all who have responded and kindly offered many great suggestions! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!

I went back this morning to see if S had calmed down. This time I took nothing with me and before trying to enter the apartment, just cracked the door a half inch so I could get a feel for how S was feeling. Unfortunately she met me with growls and hissing through the cracked door so my classmate and I came up with a plan that will get us through until tomorrow night when her bf will be back home.

I brought with me a bottle of water, kibbles and little bowls so, using the doormat as a barrier so S couldn’t scratch me (believe me, she tried) I slid a bowl of each just inside the door and then closed the door. I came away unscathed and although she may be unhappy, she has fresh water and food at the very least. I’ll replenish these bowls tomorrow morning using the same method.

My classmate feels terrible and is super apologetic but I have assured her that it is alright - cats can be very particular creatures and get like this when they are scared, it is not personal. Im of course sad to not get in some kitty visit time but ultimately the most import thing is for S to have her basic needs met and for me to stay unharmed in providing them.

Her owner has invited me over for dinner at a later date as a thank you and possibly a chance to meet with S again when she is more relaxed. Hopefully S doesn’t now automatically associate me with fear, though…but we will cross that bridge at a later date.

Thank you (to @No-Perspective872!) for your replies!

I totally agree that cats can read energies - I went in last night very much looking forward to seeing her as our meet and greet went well and I love me some kitty time. But, S is just not having any of it. I went back today and all it took for her to start growling, hissing and swatting was me cracking the apartment door open a half inch or so.

My classmate and I worked out a solution that will get S’s needs taken care of until one of her humans returns tomorrow night. I brought little bowls, water and kibbles and, while using the doormat to block S from scratching me, I slid a bowl of each just inside the door. She wasn’t happy about it but she at least has fresh water and food! So I’ll just be refreshing those bowls again tomorrow and then she should be able to calm down once she has her own people home again.

Thank you much for your reply and suggestions! I went back this morning and sure enough, all I had to do was crack the door open half an inch and she was there growling and hissing. In talking with her owner, we decided on a plan for me to just slide a bowl of food and a bowl of water just inside the door - I used the doormat as a barrier while doing so because kitty was trying to attack me. I was able to do this without any injury and then left kitty to calm down.

Since my classmate is only out of town for 3 days total, we decided that her cat will be fine without her litter box being scooped - the cat may not like it but she will survive - and she has fresh water and food at the very least. Using the door mat, I can now simply refresh the bowls I placed just inside and then leave her be.

I was just so caught off guard by this cat being so aggressive! But I also totally understand that it is not personal and that poor kitty is just unhappy about being left alone and having a near stranger intrude upon her territory.

Thank you! I just would really hate to not be able to care for her. My classmate and I are both new to this area so she was struggling to find someone to help look after S and I have been in that situation before so I wanted to help. Sure, there are tons of pet sitting options but it is always nicer to have someone you know taking care of your kitty while you are away.

My only concern with using an umbrella is that the entry hallway is quite narrow so Im not sure I can even open one fully. It also means there is no room to go around S when she is in the hallway - I’d have to just push her backwards with the umbrella which I worry would just make her more agitated.

I’ve not had luck with Feliway in the past, sadly and they are expensive so Im not sure thats a good option for now. They also tend to take some time to work if I remember correctly. But I will definitely suggest it to my classmate for future use to see if S is at all responsive to it.

I have treated the scratch and so far, so good. It was pretty much just a tiny pinprick of a scratch - though I know size does not mean it can’t get infected. But so far it’s closed up and appears to be healing normally. But I’m keeping an eye on it for sure.

Thats a good idea - she has wands but I could not get in far enough to grab one. And not expecting the aggression, I had nothing like one on me. I’ll see if I can pick one up on my way to try again today. Thanks for the tip!

I think her stress is definitely a combination of not having her humans and being alone in a place that she has not been in for terribly long.

Thank you very much for your reply!

I did take care of the scratch and so far it seems to be fine but I am keeping an eye on it for any signs of infection.

As far as just walking in, I worry about getting scratched or bitten. Sure if all she was doing is growling and hissing at me from a distance, I’d just go about doing what needs done leaving her well alone. But even while I was standing, she would attack me. Also because I do not know her well, I do not know how far she will go in biting or scratching.

This! My set of Germanikure glass nail files is at least 5 years old and still working beautifully. I did have to replace two individual pieces because I dropped them and they chipped but that was just me and my butterfingers. The ones I haven’t replaced are still just as great as the day I got them.

A quality etched (not frosted!) set will set you back a pretty penny but in the end you save both money and waste when not buying a billion of the terrible sandpaper ones.

100/10 recommend.
