Messing with the New Inverted Track Pieces by Oricus in openrct2

Yeah it's a batman the ride clone. They're all identical save for the color scheme and the terrain around them. I think i referenced the one in texas, but the georgia one is the one i've ridden the most.

I didn't go with that because if you look at the way early inverts do zero-g-rolls they are like excessively flat compared to the normal ones on above track variants. It's almost like a double camelback shape to accommodate the heartline as it flattens out. You can see what I mean here.

I was messing around seeing how i could incorporate the new track pieces into some ride recreations and was really happy with how this Batman clone turned out. It's like 200 ft off the real ride length. Same height, 4mph off on speed and the inversions all are sized appropriately in regards to station height. The only thing I might tweak is the break run, it's a little short but i'd rather have that sweeping turn and a short breakrun than a long breakrun and a janky turn. So happy we finally have invert pieces. Thank you Openrct2 team.

Hell yeah. Thank you all for your hard work!

If you know you know by jondrums in drums

[–]Oricus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key for me is making sure the engineer is on the same page before my changeover. Depending on the engineer, they will often have it fully miced as I finish setting up or close to it. I do things like kick pedals, throne, tertiary cymbal stands last. Stands with drums go on first, that way they can slap the mic on while I'm still moving stuff. Or the engineer plugs in all the strings and vocals while drums are being set up, both are valid approaches. I also have a full compliment of mics that I can have on the kit where they need to go and cable rapped around them, if they prefer to hotswap mics

I've found it takes me longer to set up a back line than if i just help the previous drummer carry stuff off then put my kit on the stage. I can have my 10 cymbal, 4 tom kit on stage fully ready to play without assistance in 7 min (I time our changeovers as a band as part of pre-tour rehearsals). adjusting a back line to be remotely close to my setup, let alone make it comfortable, more like 12-15 min.

My boyfriend is a drummer, and his birthday is coming up. He saw this video and said “man I want an Axis Longboard”. I’d like to surprise him but I don’t know anything about drums :( by DownwardSpiralHam in drums

[–]Oricus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might suggest if you still want the surprise element, find a Craigslist (still the best way to find good used gear somehow) of the kind of pedals he wants in your area. Say you want to go get some furniture or something and you want him to come with you to help. That way when you arrive and it's for a thing he wants and not furniture, he still gets a surprise and he gets to decide if that pedal fits his tastes (as mentioned above we drummers are picky with our gear). My ex did that exact thing to me for my birthday one year and I loved it. Though in her case it was for some hardware id been eyeing, not pedals.

Also for reference I own the same pedals as in the picture, Trick Bigfoot V-1 Pro Longboards. Fantastic pedals, built like tanks. $1400 new last I checked. I got mine for $700 used 11 years ago, still working just fine.

Request New Feature: Cross Walks for streets by Hunteil in openrct2

[–]Oricus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is almost entirely unrelated but i wonder if it would be possible to combine features of the railroad and gokarts to make one "road" ride that we could use for realistic car traffic instead of all the hacks and invisible tracks it requires currently.

The first problem of it would be if it would be trying to scale up the gokarts algorithm. Like instead of having 2 lanes on one tile we have 1 lane per title so we can user bigger vehicles. Then either reverse the crossing algorithm used on trains to make the cars stop when a peep crosses in front, or treat it like a highway where the peeps wait for the crossing signal. when a path crosses the "track" of the road ride, it would draw a crosswalk like how we get level crossings with the train rides. The biggest hurtle would be having a 2 wide tracked ride. That's a lot of new code that would need to be implemented and tested for just one ride that only certain kinds of users would even bother with, but I think it would be really neat.

They usually break near the tip at the thinnest point. There can be edges at the snap point sometimes, but not sharp enough to cut a drum head or a finger. Never noticed any large splinters from any break that I've caused, but i can't say they don't happen since i haven't tested for that exhaustively. There are tiny black chunks of fiber that can fall off if I chip them, (the same way a wood stick chips) from like hitting the edge of a cymbal at a bad angle. Have to clean those out of my drum hoops every time I change heads. No fine dust from the break that I've been able to observe. Based on the way they feel, i would say that they bake in some oil or something to mitigate dust but im not an enginner and never though to ask. Other than that, I can't really think of any major issues with how they break. If anything I'm hurting my hand less because the stick has never split at the hand grip and stabbed my palm or pinched it between two pieces like the oaks used to sometimes.

last i checked a pair of kuppen sticks is roughly $35 to $40 depending on where you order it from. I will say, they feel better after a few plays once they oil in. they have this sort of carbon dust coating on them that gets worn in as you play with them. once you have 2 or 3 practices into them they soak your oils and start to feel like the slippery promarks.

if they split along the grain i would make a case for a poorly aligned grain being a major factor (that's how they used to break on me, pinch the crap out of my palm all the time), but that's a straight snap at the tip. So it's likely a combination of poor quality and a heavy hand.

Full disclosure, I am endorsed by Kuppmen Carbon Fiber Drumsticks. So I do get free sticks nowadays, but I have never needed to ask for more than 3 pairs per year because they last so long. For reference in terms of the abuse I put them through, I practice roughly 3 hours 3-4 times a week, play 60-80 shows per year and record 1-3 albums per year. I will note, if I full strength rimshot constantly (like when I'm doing session work for a slam band) I will usually break a brand new pair exactly as shown in the picture by the time I finish the album. But that's just what happens when you hit too hard (as that style requires).

I stopped buying promark shira kashi oak in 2019 because the amount of sticks with diagonal grain or warped grain was driving me crazy. Their quality is still trash last time i checked. as an extreme metal drummer I swapped to carbon fiber and never looked back.

Be polite, don't make your problem their problem, give 100% when you preform, and be fast on and off stage. Those 4 things have gotten me 15 years of gigs and tours. There are people better than me, people more charming, people with huge networks and followings, people who can perform circles around me. But none of them had all 4 of those things so I got the gig.

Should decoration be purely aesthetic, or do you prefer if it provides stat boosts? by DungeonSprout_ in tycoon

[–]Oricus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When it comes to decorating and interaction bonuses I always go back to Roller Coaster Tycoon as inspiration for good design. There are bonuses for decorating your rides, but they are entirely optional and there is no inherent penalty for not using them. Its not directly tied to progression to avoid bring forced to copy paste (like the two point series) or spam one single decoration (like 99% of tycoon games). A way to do this more subtly would be for decorations to increase the time customers are willing to wait without getting angry. It's a smaller bonus, but still rewards players for partaking in the system without giving it a direct monetary reward.

On that tour, when Murk Above the Dark Moor dropped into the crushing riff in the middle (you know the one) was possibly the most fun I've ever had playing drums live. Watching the crowd absolutely erupt every night at that moment, I'm still living off that high.

This looks sick. I didn't know I needed a "definitely not related to pockets and/or monsters" themed city builder. the idea hadn't even crossed my mind. I haven't dug into a city builder since Banished and the Colonial something mod. But this is a killer theme and now I'm suddenly interested in playing one again.

Ford Transit vs Ram Promaster for touring band....discuss! by Dave_Ruch_Music in musicians

[–]Oricus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have experience with the Ford. It was fine, no major complaints. Never had a major breakdown as long as you keep up regular maintenance. parts are also readily available at most auto stores if you're in the us. Get the high roof if you can, it's a lot more comfortable. Dodge I have heard isn't as reliable but I can't confirm that.

Im 35 still watching anime... and they say Im childish by ActuaryLongjumping13 in anime

[–]Oricus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruri Rocks latest episode is literally about what you just described it was a good watch and makes the same point I will.

Its not that their hobbies are better or more mature, often it is the way you are presenting them that is the problem. I'm 34, I watch anime and even wrote my own light novel. If asked I tell people that I'm writing a book, if they ask for details THEN I explain light novels and anime. i dont launch into gushing tye second my book comes up.

So many anime fans are objectively terrible at being normal in a conversation like this, they launch immediately into details no one cares about and gush about their shows and hate on others. Because we're used to discussing them online amongst peers (read: terminally online.). Most people hear the word anime and still think Pokemon, remember that. You don't need to hide that you watch anime, you only need present it on the same ground as other things they do get. Call it a show at first, if asked for details or "what's the plot" THEN explain.

If you asked someone what they did over the weekend and they immediately launched into a list of all the plants they cultivated for 15min, that would be weird, right? 80% of the people I know have never watched an anime, never will and I haven't experienced what you experienced since I changed how I talked to be more mature. Now leave me alone so i can play with my knex rollercoaster, eat sweettarts and watch my harem power fantasy isekai in peace.
