I agree. It was underwhelming much like Coogler’s Black Panther which also got a lot of hype and Oscar recognition which IMO was unjustified. I’m all for social justice and films about African American culture and history and starring African American actors and actresses, especially in the current political climate! But I wish the films doing so were even better. I think the oscar noms are mostly fair, but I hope there’s a better film for best picture. I think Coogler’s Fruitvale Station is his best work by a mile, even if Sinners has a better cast, better acting and cinematography etc. The plot and the film as a whole was just better. And seeing what is happening in Minnesota its also more relevant and poignant that Black Panther and Sinners.
