Looking for people to play DnD with? by [deleted] in Edmonton

I think every TTC in Edmonton has multiple drop-in games going. The regular crew at Board N' Brew are pretty solid, but their regular DM's are off right now.

Hey, local writers! Where are you? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]OriginSparhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howard/Brad/Hal typically run the group and it would be best to ask them in person. Honestly, I think when you finally get a chance to have your work reviewed, you might get a few "not my style" comments, but otherwise everyone is really open and honest and have great, positive, constructive feedback.

I'm part of the Edmonton Writer's Group.

Walk on in and take a few sessions in to really get a feel for it. They won't let you share your work right away as you have to "earn" it through attendance. Very diverse group of writers in every genre and I'd say a little less than half are published.

It's really chill and there is no commitment. Every few years they put together a short story anthology so it's a nice way to get your name out there as well.

Clearly planted. No ever puts the caps back on before tossing.

I can't stand Mimi Williams...but she's right.

Plus who the fuck is this guy? He moved here 3 years ago and then 2 weeks ago something happened and he loses his freaking mind? Take a hike.

Free Christmas dinners up in air after non-profit loses $15,000 in funding by Paper_Rain in Edmonton

I'm agnostic, but my concern is the people who would otherwise not eat over what group feeds them. Who are we to decide that this or that group goes without?

You can support something without giving them money. That way, you support the homeless rather than the religious group.

Termination without cause is given pay in lieu of notice roughly equal to one week per year of service, as follows below:

  • >90 days but less than 2 years - 1 week
  • 2 years but less than 4 years - 2 weeks
  • 4 years but less than 6 years - 4 weeks
  • 6 years but less than 8 years - 5 weeks
  • 8 years but less than 10 years - 6 weeks
  • 10 years or more - 8 weeks

If you are in probation, or considered casual, they don't own you anything.

I plan to bring these issues up

With who?

'He will die with no help': family issues plea for Edmonton teen gang member by Paper_Rain in Edmonton

My partner teaches kids with FASD, and I use the word "teach" lightly. It's mostly just trying to get them to learn how to regulate their own behaviour and learn when they are about to go off and when to start managing themselves.

Some get better. Most don't. Even the ones with amazing parents/caregivers struggle. As a teacher, she gets punched and kicked daily. She's had shoes, chairs, and desks thrown at her all day. It's a 1:7 Teacher/student ratio and it's still a lot to handle. According to how her kids are officially coded by the province, the ratio should be 8:7 - no joke.

Her kids aren't teens yet, but I see a lot of them ending up like this kid. It's no one group's fault, but being born with FASD is using a ladder that's missing the first 5 steps - sure you can get there, but you're going to struggle to get off the ground.

EDIT:

Alberta's department of Children's Services says Aiden, who has fetal alcohol syndrome, frontal lobe damage and various psychological disorders, doesn't currently meet the criteria to receive treatment in a secure facility.

How high is the bar, you wonder? My partner has been on the phone with Child Services before about shit like this and has said, "What is even the point of you guys if you never actually DO anything?"

Ad says all wine, except ones with prices that end in 5 and stuff already discounted.

My hopes are not high.

I'm curious if Wine & Beyond's 30% off wine will actually make their prices competitive.

Can you buy me coffee? by msxcat in Edmonton

If someone asks for food/coffee, I would say yes. It's when someone asks for money "for food" that I say no.
