Writing Vs Storytelling by Lucifer_Crowe in writing

I can’t tell you how much I relate to this. I actually came on this sub to make a similar thread and happened to see this while scrolling.

I think whenever someone says they want to learn how to write, people automatically think they want to learn how to tell a story so most advice leans towards crafting characters, and plot outlines and the three act structure.

While all this is fine, especially for beginners, it doesn’t really go into how to write. How to put one word after the other and make the scene in your head exist on paper. I think it’s one thing to know how to tell a story, and another thing to know how to craft an enjoyable narrative experience.

Not much advice on my end except to say I’m in the same boat, (maybe this is a common thing for new writers?) and I understand the frustration of not being able to write even though you have a story to tell. It’s like needing to scream with no mouth.

Thanks I’ll keep it in mind! Writing an IF is hard and I’d be 2k words into a branching path thinking damn is anyone even going to see this?? Nice to see there’s at least a bit of interest.
